---Sage's POV---
I never imagined it to be this hard...but then again, I never imagined I had to tell the others that dad has fallen in battle. My reckless brother and more responsible sister...little Ellie...I sighed and pushed myself of the doorway where I had been leaning against the doorpost with one arm, staring at Ellie sleeping soundly, clutching the grey teddy to her chest.
Turning around, I nearly stumbled into one of the men that I've heard of for as long as I could remember but never had the pleasure to meet. It was the one that had been ogling my brother when he made that strip party remark. I nearly rolled my eyes at my younger brother; always the player, hiding the fact that he was gay, at least bi-curious. He obviously thought that I would think any different of him if he came out.
A snort nearly escaped me; as if. I couldn't judge someone from being the same as I was. Than again, I didn't flaunt it or ever brought a boyfriend home so Davy didn't have anything to clue himself in. A small cough made me aware that the guy I bumped into was still standing there.
Closing Ellie's door behind me, being watchful that I left it on a crack, I looked up at him and then glanced down the hallway, where his friends were undoubtedly waiting for me.
I smiled warily at him before gesturing to go first. He tilted an eyebrow and without saying a word, he turned around and walked back to the living room, where Laura was silently sniveling in a corner. Before I could enter though, Davy pushed me back out the room, his blue eyes standing wild and mixed between heartbreaking sorrow and overwhelming anger.
"What happened? I thought they were fine?" He asked softly but his voice gained an accusing tone while he looked at me pointedly. A groan escaped me as I shook my head. "I don't understand; they were fine last time I checked. It doesn't make sense." Davy snorted and shook his head, his curls whipping around as he did so.
"Yeah, and their lips are sealed shut until they have an 'adult' to talk to. And eavesdropping is soooooo mature." He added louder, glaring at the doorway where a shadow quickly stepped back. Davy snorted and rolled his eyes. "Navy Seals my ass, that guy has been annoying me ever since you brought Ellie to her bed."
I glanced at him and glanced again before smirking widely and laughed softly. Davy looked up at my glee and frowned slightly, silently asking me with his eyes what I found so funny.
"You just got turned down, didn't you?" I teased, laughing even harder when Davy's cheeks, ears and neck turned red, as he looked pissed off. He flipped me off before stomping back towards the living room and I leaned against the walls when I heard him snap, "What are you, a bunch of kids? Stop eavesdropping or I'll kick you in the nuts! Same for buddy-boy over there!"
Walking around the corner, I saw Davy standing in front of Josh, who held his hands up in surrender although he had a provoking smirk stuck on his lips as he towered over my little brother. I cleared my throat, sighing as I tilted an eyebrow towards Davy and looked from him to the single seat behind him.
He huffed and stomped over there before throwing himself in the seat, arms crossed and legs dangling over the other armrest while he glared outside. I rolled my eyes at the behavior of my younger brother and sat graciously in the couch opposite from where my father's former teammates were sitting, all of them staring at me.
"Okay," I sighed, rubbing a hand over my neck while keeping my eyes downcast. "I'm going to be blunt here; why are you guys here? They could have sent anyone to bring the news so I doubt that they would send his former team." My eyes shot up, looking each and every man in the eye, daring them to lie in my face.
The one on the left, Josh, pulled a face while Richard glanced around the room, seemingly interested with everything remotely connected to electronics and computers. I stored that bit of knowledge away in my head as I focused all of my attention to the gorgeous man in the middle of the group.
