I was completely against the hazardous activity occurring all around me. I was glancing around at all the different things needing to be done to meet our goal. I was just standing there in the attempt to "offer" my assistance. I was strictly, enforced to stay away from anything critical to the operation. I wasn't even allowed to know what the end game was. What were we trying to accomplish. All I knew is that it would end in total demolition of the area.
Trinity kept a watchful eye on me at all times. I might have been against what ever we were doing, but I wasn't dubious. They attempted to tell me all about this. Probably aware of how horrible my memory was. I did remember that it was going to terminate the area. How were all of my friends going to get out of here in time?
There were 5 of us, including me. Trinity, who had sleek black hair, was playing with some type of crystal in between her fingers. Kory, who was in charge of the computer. He had short brown hair that stuck up in the air, too much product if you ask me. Syria was making sure they had everything, stock and maintenance. Also the leader of our small bunch, she had long blond hair and a stick for a body. Alex was probably the person to make this all happen. He most likely had the idea and made some sort of mind connection with Syria to convince her it was all his doing. I couldn't judge him to harshly though, he was my boyfriend. He had short black hair, but it still hung a little past his ears.
Then there was me. Every one in the cluster called me the voice of reason, though if that were true you would think they would've listened to me, right? Wrong. I had extremely dark brown hair that clung to my lower back. I had a muscular body build, but I definitely wouldn't call myself fat, far from it, actually. I just took care of myself.
I blew the bangs out of my face and crossed my arms tightly across my chest, leaning against a tree. Why were we in the middle of desolate nowhere? I scratched my head with my left hand and watched Alex and Kory argue about what needed to be done. Alex stepped closer, getting in Kory's face, and I was instantly by his side holding him back. He meets my eyes for a millisecond and then walks away in defeat. That's how it usually was. Not only was I the voice of reason, I was the peace keeper. Especially with Alex.
"You know, I could have handled that myself," Kory murmured. I snorted.
"You can't handle a damn fly, Kore, sorry." He looked back to the computer, beginning to type in the working code for the machine.
I walked over to a soft patch of grass and pouted, returning my arms to their regular place: knotted over my chest. Alex walked over and sat next to me. He didn't have much to do, except tell them what they were doing wrong. Syria walked over and glared at us, even though we didn't do anything. Without a word, Alex got back up to breath down everyone's back once more. Syria had always liked him herself. I roll my eyes when she walked away, pleased with herself, and I bent my legs off to the side, fingering my hair slowly in the dimly lit forest rays. Trinity crossed over to me and looked down at me with sorrowful eyes.
"Why do you have to be so opposed to this?" She asked, squatting down.
"Girl, I don't even remember what we're doing, exactly." I frown. "What's the use, anyway? Syria is this close to mounting my ass over her fireplace."
"It's so weird. The two of you started our group together, but since then it's been a power struggle. You both use to be so close," Trinity sighed.
"Doesn't mean much now," I mumbled brushing my hand over the grass.
She plopped all the way down into the grass next to me and rubbed my back. We stayed silent until she was called over by Kory. She grumbled and walked over to where he was standing. When they got over a fighting match of no one knowing what to do, I stepped over lightly to the creaky, old, wooden table with a laptop on it. The connection to the Terminator (what I called it) had been severed. I pull the office chair, along with Kory, out of the way, and, with a few clicks and a 8 letter code, it was rewired. I walked back to my original spot, repositioning my lean body again the tree. I was extremely close to giving into my childish instincts and climbing it.
I didn't care that no one thanked me. I wasn't supposed to be here, but then again, my house is only a mile away, and it wasn't my fault I went on a walk. I didn't even remember that they were suppose to be here. I wasn't allowed to leave after that, for fear that one of the sweetest people in the world (me) would sabotage the whole damn experiment.
I stared at my holey jeans and ran my sweaty hands over the few frayed strings still connected, like a bridge. I looked at my brand new sneakers with white laces, still impeccably clean, and the rest pure black, except a single neon red lightning bolt on the same side as my ankle. I was wearing an old camouflage tank top with a half jean jacket too. Together, most people avoided me cause I looked dangerous. I can be tough, just when people screw with me.
Syria shouted something about "10 minutes". I didn't know if she meant that they were ready to detonate in 10 minutes or if there was just something wrong with something and it would be fixed by then. I would get to go home soon, though, and the thought made me happy.
There was a clearing where the Terminator was located. It had white poppies all around it, and was prepared. It looked like what it was, a bomb was going to go off.
Time ticked by quickly until I had checked my phone and ten minutes had passed. I saw the evil grin that Syria had, the eyes glowing with devious delight and her proud upright posture. She was going to do something, and it would effect more than just the small forest around me, or that's the feeling I got. She started instructing people to leave and guiding them to the path I, myself, had come from. Alex said someone would have to detonate it, and that they may not be able to make it off. This didn't stunt they're plans at all though. Instead I would have my first part to play. Everyone argued, they knew I would die if I didn't run fast enough. Sure I was filled with brawn but I had just as much brains. Trinity's eyes flicked to me with fear and I knew they had lost the battle.
"I'm fast" I say quietly. I wasn't sure myself if I would survive but I convinced myself not to give Syria the joy of controlling me. "Sure I'll do it" I grin from ear to ear. If I died she would have the guilt not me, I'd be dead. "Get out of here you losers, just show me what I have to do" Alex was definitely sparked with fear as well as Trinity and Kory.
Kory showed me the code I would have to enter. It wasn't difficult and it was on a slip of paper if I forgot. Trinity hugged me and really didn't want to let go but she did. Next Alex rushes into my arms next. "I'll see you on the other side?"
"Boy, I'm making it out of here! That's final. I won't give Syria a chance to get you since I'm dead" I smirk at my remark.
He looked me over and then stared me in the eyes for a while, eventually leaning down and meeting his lips with mine. I didn't want it to be over, not at all but he pulled away and held my shoulders. "You press enter and you run. You hear me?" I laughed at the fear outlining his eyes and nod. He turns with Trinity and leaves.
I was fine with Syria only waving with her evil, cheeky grin. Kory behind her. She told me to wait about five minutes for them to get out of the range of fire. I waited eight to be safe and entered the code. Nothing was happening though for a while and I just stood there watching. I sensed no danger. The earth started to rumble a little bit and I take it I should have started running earlier. A beam electrifies from the top of the Terminator. I start running as fast as I can, as I feel little droplets falling into my skin. I slipped, and tripped over a branch, sliding and tumbling until I hit my head hard on a tree as well as my back. I opened my blurry eyes and looked around, facing a giant current of purple energy right for me. When it hit it sent me wrapping around the tree the wrong way, causing me to fade away into an unconscious state, feeling a tingling all around me of pure static energy.
