When Intern 2 woke up the next afternoon, he had a blinding headache. Oh god, was this a hangover? Surely he wouldn't have gotten drunk. But he couldn't remember a thing from the previous night. Running his hand down his face, he stood up and immediately swayed to the left, grabbing on to the wall for support. He checked the watch that he had drawn on his wrist. It was 3:15. Weird. Whenever he checked his watch, it always said 3:15. He should probably get that checked out. But wow, he had overslept! He'd normally sleep in until... well, 3:15, actually. That's what the time always seemed to be.
After getting up and brushing his teeth with a twig he had found a few years ago, he walked towards the stairs of the basement. He didn't need to change, he wore his work clothes all the time. Literally. Before he reached the stairs, his eye caught a white, rectagular object hanging off the table he had crafted. He stopped in his tracks to observe it.
Flowchart.
He had forgotten about Flowchart. Regret flooded over him. How could he forget? His one and only true love... forgotten? How could he do this? But as he walked closer to Flowchart, he became happy again. She wasn't saying anything bad to him. She wasn't saying anything, in fact.
Intern 2 picked her up and spun her around, pure joy on his face. Just looking at her filled him up with glee. It felt like he was on cloud 9 and he never wanted to come down. He didn't even feel dizzy when he stopped spinning.
"You wanna watch a movie?"
" "
"Alright!"
But they didn't end up watching a movie. They instead watched season 4 of Arrested Development. Intern 2 was singing along to Getaway when it came on, though he couldn't do it without breaking into fits of laughter every now and then. He could tell Flowchart was enjoying it just as much.
When that episode was over, Techno knocked on the door, Dubstep trailing behind her.
"bsauof afiouadbsofaope faeb buiatiapus gbaoguibgr," said Dubstep, earning a nod from Techno, who scowled at Intern 2.
"Yeah, why aren't yo-"
"Why don't you go away!" screamed Intern 2. Oh no, a song lyric... He couldn't resist. "Getaway! Stay away, Getaway! Get away, Getaway! I'm hopelessly hopeleeeeeess! Getawaaay... getaway..." The lyrics were sung at the top of his voice. He was sure even Squirrel could have heard it... wherever he was. If only he hadn't taken him to that hawk sanctuary.
Taken aback, Techno turned and left, Dubstep following with a "bsou bofedspifm wubwubwub bmssmsmmm".
Intern 2 became aware of what he just did. He was pretty sure he had now pissed off everyone working at MyMusic at least once. He sighed. Suddenly, he wasn't in the mood for Arrested Development any more. In fact, he wasn't really in the mood for anything. He didn't know why his mood had changed so suddenly, but he just wanted to think.
All the things everyone had said and done to him. Questions flooded his mind. Why did he keep seeing Satan? Was he hallucinating? Did anybody else see him? Indie had spoken to him once, right? Why did Satan want to talk to him? Why did he set him up with Flowchart? Why was he dating an inanimate object, anyway? Was this going to work out?
Then, something clicked. Flowchart wasn't human. How could this work? He suddenly understood everything that everybody had said, and he wasn't feeling so great any more. He didn't want to leave Flowchart. Her prescence made him feel so much better. But what about the other people? He was used to abuse, especially from Indie, but this was just something else to add to the list of reasons human beings avoided him.
He decided he shoud go out. Go somewhere calm with Flowchart and think things through. His basement was dark and damp, not a good place to spend time. Maybe a secluded park. Yes, that would be perfect. He took a large folder with him to hide Flowchart until he got to the park. After walking up the stairs, he opened the trapdoor and climbed out, hoping not to attract anybody's attention. When he reached the door, he heard a voice from behind him.
"And where do you think you're going?"
He sighed. "Rayna, I'm not in the mood to talk right now."
"You didn't answer my question."
He sighed again. "I need some alone time, okay? I probably won't be back all day, or at least until 3:15."
"But we need you here, Intern 2!" she cried. Intern 2 cocked his head to the left slightly, still facing away from Rayna. "Nothing useful actually gets done without you."
He moved his head back before looking at the floor. All of his thoughts rushed out of his head as he came to a tragic conclusion. He smiled sadly. "No one would miss me." He walked away, eyes wet and dowcast. Rayna knew he couldn't hear her, but she spoke anyway.
"That's not true! I would..."
