"mate hurry up, the allocation ceremony begins in half an hour and you haven't even gotten out of bed!" liam yells as he yanks my soft, fluffy duvet off my naked body.

"no! my warm cave! liam! give it back you twat!" i holler back at him, as i jump out of bed and chase after him.

i catch him running into our shared kitchen and i immediately speed up and tackle him to the ground. he laughs as i we both fall to the ground.

"okay now get off your lazy ass and put some clothes on, we have to leave in five." he says, carrying my blanket back to my room. i groan as i push myself off the wooden ground, make my way to my room and grab a plain white tee and some black skinny jeans.

liam pokes his head around my door and tells me that we need to leave now, so i follow him into our car and we go.

-

the first thing we could hear as we entered the grand hall were whispers and some ghosts gossiping about who they wanted. i personally had no idea who i wanted, i just hope that they aren't paranoid of paranormal kind of activity, as i intend to not stay very, well hidden let's say. i seem to knock over stuff a lot, apparently i just can't stay hidden.

liam always tells me that i'm too clumsy to be one who is not supposed to create suspicion.

well i'm sorry for being clumsy! it's not like i try to freak all the people i watch over out.

my attention snaps to our mayor, zayn. he clears his throat over the microphone and it echoes through the large, high ceiling hall. all noise dies as he begins to speak.

"welcome everyone to our annual allocation ceremony," his voice booms out of the speakers and bounces around the edges of the room, "i'm sure all of you are very excited to see who you have been paired with, but as per usual, i must read out the rules and regulations."

"does he realise that no one actually cares about these? i mean i wouldn't follow them." i tell liam, who just shrugs and shushes me.

i roll my eyes at him and look back towards the stage.

"so the most important, you are not to get involved with the humans life, you are not to create any suspicion, you are not to interact with any other humans except for the one you are allocated with." he flips over his page and continues, "you are allowed to visit the humans residential area whenever you like, you are allowed to select a certain room to put your micro cam, and each of you will be given a new one, which will be delivered to your houses shortly after the ceremony. you must remember to report back to the council once a week, to update us on your human, each street will have a certain council member they will report to."

he stops for a moment, before adding, "also, please remember that you are to look over the whole residence, but please focus on the main human who you have been paired with. it is important that those who are close to the human are well too. now, luke, please bring up the sheet that has the names on it. thank you." he steps off the stage and reveals a large screen that has all of our names on it, alongside the human we are matched with.

i quickly scan over to the 't' section. i look through the entire section and had not seen my own name. confused, i turn to liam and ask, "why isn't my name on there?" he looks at me and furrows his eyebrows.

"what? how?" he replies. i shrug, not knowing why either.

"go to zayn and ask him why. there must be an explanation behind it." liam tells me.

i push through the waves of people and make it to the front, just below the stage. i climb up the stairs and walk over to zayn.

"zayn," i begin, before he turns around and pulls me into a side hug, as we are very good friends, "i happened to notice that my name isn't on the sheet." i explain to him.

he looks at me for a minute before telling me, "oh, well we did have to remove you from the system, as you have seemed to scare the last 3 humans you were paired with. sorry."

i stand there in shock. it wasn't my fault! i always try to make sure nothing goes wrong.

i grip zayns shoulders and ask in frustration, "that's unfair! listen, i get that i'm clumsy and that had happened before, but i really need this year!"

he sighs, before wriggling out of my grip and pulling out a small piece of paper.

"here," he says, "this was one of the extra humans out there, he had no record of much sadness since he was 6, so we left him out, although recently we can see he isn't his happiest. listen louis, i trust you, but the rest of the council don't really. i hope you don't mess this one up."

"of course not!" i say, before kissing his cheek and skipping down the stage.

liam is already waiting for me at the bottom, and he tells me that we're leaving right now, as he can't wait to set up his new micro cam. i chuckle at his eagerness and we leave the hall.

-

"i can't wait to use mine!" liam excitedly squeals after he had finished setting up his cam.

"of course," i say rolling my eyes, "who did you get?"

his eyes glimmer with happiness as he tells me 'niall horan'. my mouth drops in shock, knowing that liam's wanted niall for the past 2 years.

"aye nice one!" i say as i go in to hug him. he openly accepts it and jumps up and down in my arms.

"who did you get?" he asks, face buried in my neck. i didn't actually know, i hadn't looked at the piece of paper yet.

"i dunno, let me get that paper." we break out of the hug and i go to the kitchen counter and grab the paper adn.

'harry styles. 324 south bank road' it says.

"harry styles, south bank! i think that's in river bank!" i yell.

"sounds like a movie star!" i hear liam yell back.

"agreed." i say, not sure if liam could hear me.

i was looking forward to meeting this 'harry styles'.
