Chapter 12

"Where are they?" I ask my best friend as I scan the restaurant tables; aimlessly searching for the familiar face of the red-haired girl we met in the queue. Unfortunately, my wandering eyes are only greeted with the faces of the many strangers that litter the room.

"Over there," Macey replies in a tone of triumph, although I have no idea where she is looking as I'm facing a completely different direction.

"Where? I wasn't looking," I ask her, creasing my eyebrows at the same time.

"There," she says rather matter-of-factly, pointing to somewhere in the back corner of the restaurant, but I still can't see our friend.

"Where?" I ask her yet again, giving her a completely clueless look which she returns with a sigh and roll of the eyes.

"You are useless Ray," she states in an exasperated manner and proceeds to drag me along the length of the restaurant like a lost puppy.

I'm still hopelessly searching the restaurant for Alex, but to no avail, all I see are burgundy walls; tables full of unfamiliar faces and wandering waiters. Since I have no clue where I'm supposed to be heading, I allow Macey the liberty of continuing to drag me. Along the way I have to be careful not to bump into chairs, tables and even make sure I don't trip over my feet due to my rather clumsy nature.

Eventually, we come to a halt and Macey let's go off my wrist. I look up to see we have stopped at a round table, with 4 girls sat around it -one of them being Alex. Alex's blue eyes look up towards us and she gives us a friendly smile, before gesturing to us to sit down. Macey sits down first, scooting along the brown cushioned seat so that she is next to one of Alex's cousins and I quickly follow suit.

"Hi Macey, so you eventually got here then?" Alex asks propping her elbows on the table and stimulating the conversation.

"Yeah, we spent longer in the signing than anticipated and then I simply had to spill all my emotions to Ray- I could not hold it all in. I was going to burst!" Macey replies, half laughing half shouting, earning a laugh from Alex.

"Sounds as if you had a good time!" Alex states through her laughter.

"Sure did," Macey responds and begins to fiddle with the ends of her hair. "So... you going to introduce us to your cousins?"

"Oh yes, I'm sorry, how rude of me," Alex exclaims, giving us all an apologetic look. "So..." she begins, and rubs her hands together “This blonde-haired, green-eyed beauty sat next to me is my younger cousin Emily, the brunette in the middle is Alissa, there's only ten days between us, and the raven-haired girl next to you Macey, is my wonderful older cousin Cassandra. Oh and before you ask, yes, they are all sisters."

Alex's last comment resulted in small giggles escaping the mouths of her cousins. I presume the last statement is an inside joke between the girls. Well, it wouldn’t surprise me anyway, the sisters look nothing alike so they must often get questioned about it, which must be rather tiresome I suppose.

I don’t really know what to say after the laughter dies down- not that I actually said anything before the anyway. I didn’t really talk to Alex in the queue, so she’s just as much a stranger to me as her cousins and I really don’t know how to strike up a conversation that well. Conversation starting is, let’s say, a little out of my comfort zone. I’d be like a fish out of water, floundering in unfamiliar territory.
