"Something in the way she looks at me makes me wanna lay down, open my mouth, and get kissed."
-Betty, "Jesus"A month has passed. So many good things have happened. James and I have made up. Now, we're closer than ever. He even celebrated Samhain with my family and I!
Darren has been acting a lot nicer. He has gone back to practicing Wicca with Sarafina, Carl, and I. He also tells us funny stories about his new friends at school. Oh, my God. I am so happy he actually has made friends at this point!
Mom's pregnancy hormones are making her powers stronger day by day, which is both good and bad. She is now able to control the weather with her mind. She recently made it rain outside because she was sad about something that happened at her spinning class. She never did that before. But today, the day after Samhain, she is making the sun shine bright and the climate stay warm. This is nice, since it has been kind of cold lately.
Sarafina is acting a little weird. She isn't talking to me, or anyone else in the family, for that matter. She's being really reserved and keeping to herself. She has been in our room on her phone all day. God only knows why.
James and I stand in the kitchen together. We watch Darren and Carl play with a ouija board in the other room. We observe Mom and Mapa cooking a fancy feast together, since it is the end of the feasting season. Not seeing Sarafina spend time with us makes me worry. She loves us dearly. She wouldn't usually avoid us.
I bite my lip. "James," I say, "I'm going to go upstairs and check on Sarafina. I'll see you in a minute." I give James a quick kiss on the lips before I run upstairs.
Sarafina lies on the bed next to mine on her back, holding her phone in front of her face. She smiles, and cries a happy tear. She now begins to type another text. She laughs once it sends.
"Sarafina, are you okay?" I ask as I enter the room.
Sarafina quickly hides her phone under her pillow and turns over to face me. Her face changes from happy to scared in a matter of milliseconds. Something very suspicious is going on. I can just feel it.
"Oh...um, hi, Anna," she says, blushing.
"Why aren't you coming downstairs to feast with us? You know we put a lot of importance on the day after Samhain," I say. I plop down on Sarafina's bed.
"I don't feel well," she says.
"You look fine," I say, remembering Sarafina's tears of joy. "Now, who are you texting?"
"Um...I don't want to talk about her," she replies awkwardly.
"Please let me see your phone," I say.
Sarafina sighs. She takes her iPhone, and hands it to me. The screen is lit up. Her texts are clear as day. Now, I know who she's been texting. And that's none other than Arielle.
I scroll up and down. The texts they have exchanged are oddly...sexual. I notice Arielle and Sarafina have talked about everything from the time they first kissed, which apparently was a month ago, to the time Sarafina went down on Arielle, which was yesterday, at my house. I cringe. This is pretty gross. I put Sarafina's phone down, not wanting to read anything else about her sex life.
"You slept with Arielle?!" I say angrily.
"Well, yeah! I thought she was going to be mad at me for fighting with you and finding out about the coven you were in with her, so, I made up with her," She protests.
"What the hell, Sarafina? You're not even 16!" I say. "You shouldn't be having sex with anyone, guy, girl, on the side, or in between!"
"Well, we're both cisgender females, so neither of us can get the other pregnant," says Sarafina, as she shrugs her shoulders.
"What about STDs?" I say.
"We got tested at the free clinic a week ago. We're both clear," she replies easily, like it is no big deal she had sex with someone to apologize for her mistakes.
"Alright, that's good. But do you know what happens when to Witches have sex with each other?" I ask.
"Well, they certainly have a damn good time. Maybe a couple orgasms here and there," says Sarafina. She chuckles.
"Sure," I say, "but there's a lot more to it. You exchange your aura and energy. You know, that's okay if you both have the same positive aura, of the same negative aura. As you know, positive auras are charged from practicing white magick. Negative auras, on the other hand, are charged by practicing black magick. You are a spiritual healer, so you have a happy and wise indigo aura. Arielle, on the other hand, deals with black magick and uses it to take things away from people," I explain.
Suddenly, Sarafina's eyes widen. "Oh no," she says. "Are you saying she took my powers away?!"
I shake my head. "No, your powers are still there. I can see your aura is the same dark blue as it always is. But, I can see that your navel and heart chakras are out of balance with your other chakras. This means she took away all passion and love you had for anyone but her. She made herself the center of your world," I say.
"But, I can get my chakras in balance again, right?" Says Sarafina, her hands nervously twitching.
"Yes," I say, "However, it is going to take a very long time. Months. Maybe even years."
Sarafina smacks her knees. She looks up at the ceiling. I see she is annoyed as hell. At least she now knows what having sex with the wrong witch can do to one's health. I wouldn't be able to stand seeing her as naïve as she used to be.
"Great," says Sarafina. "So now I'm completely in love and it's going to take up the vast majority of my life for a very long time. Amazing."
I laugh, and put my hand on Sarafina's knee. I love hearing her sarcastic comments. But unfortunately, Sarafina doesn't laugh with me. This saddens me. For a long time, we had such a strong sisterly connection. It will take a long time for that to repair.
