Light infiltrated my eyes through closed lids, my throat was dry, and my body felt stiff. I wanted to go back to sleep but it was likely I had been sleeping for days. My dreams were about the day the Particle Accelerator exploded. The celebrations when the staff of S.T.A.R Labs believed they had succeeded. The moment it all when wrong. Running down the halls of the lab, scared; searching for my boyfriend. Cisco's voice on the walkie-talkie. Harrison's hand in mine as we both collapsed. I don't know how long it had been since that day but I wondered how my friends were, and how Alfred and Dani were coping-if they had visited. Eventually, I sat up and looked around the room. Next to me was another bed occupied by young looking man with tubes attached to him. He was cute with boyish features, and almost a boy band hair style. The strange thing was on his heart monitor, I wasn't able to see a beat. My eyebrows were furrowed but I wasn't able to wonder for long when I heard a voice.
"Sybil Stone, awkward author of Central City."
My smile was broad as I said "Dr. Harrison Wells, the mad scientist of Central City."
"I wasn't worried about you." Harrison asserted.
I smiled and turned to see Harrison Wells, wheeling himself into the room. Dressed in black from head to toe, his hair perfectly in place, glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose-those things hadn't changed.Harrison was confined to a motorized wheel-chair, it seems like the sort of thing one should note right away. What I did notice is that there were no traces of a smile and probably hadn't been for weeks. I didn't want to be shocked but of course I was. His voice, or the twinkle in his eye that constantly made me question his intentions or anything else important-remained unchanged. He was still the awe inspiring, genius, and cold. It didn't matter because he was still Harrison Wells and that's all he could ever be.
"If you weren't worried then why did you bring me to S.T.A.R Labs instead of a hospital?" I asked in good humor.
"Because I knew no one in the hospital would be able to understand what's happening to you on the cellular level. You've been asleep for almost two months. The entire time you have been in perfect condition yet still you were comatose. You had an effect on Barry, when we first brought him in his heart slowed to a normal speed." Wells replied.
"Normal speed?" I asked.
Wells nodded and explained "His heart is moving to fast for our machines or the hospitals to pick up its beat."
"That's equal parts frightening and fascinating." I replied.
"Agreed." Harrison said as he moved forward towards me.
The wheelchair bumped up against the side of my bed, I took his hands and said, my voice hopefully filled with the sincere emotions I was feeling "I am so sorry for all you have lost, Harrison."
Harrison brought both of my hands up to his lips then kissed them.
"Thank you, my dear." He whispered. We sat there in a comfortable silence for a moment before an important thought occurred to me.
I asked "Did you call Uncle Alfred or Dani to tell them about the accident and my condition?"
"Dani bitched at me. She blamed me like millions of others and threaten me with in an inch of my life." Harrison sighed "Alfred showed no emotion in his voice but from his wording I pieced together he felt the same as Dani."
I nodded, hopping for the best but of course getting the truth. My little sister Dani was a true force to be reckoned with when she was enraged. Gently, Harrison started stroking the back of my hand with one of his thumbs. Suddenly I thought of something.
"Has someone been looking after Sinatra, Merlin, and Whiskey?" I asked. Sinatra, Merlin, and Whiskey were my three dogs. Sinatra was an Husky-German Shepherd mix; six years old, loves to sing along with music, with bright blue eyes. Then Merlin, a four year old grey Irish wolfhound who was quite the cuddler (Which was good because Harrison wasn't). Finally there was Whiskey, my one year old blue merle Australian Shepherd who had a whole lot of love to give.
Harrison smiled briefly and said "I had Cisco bring them to my place during your stay here."
"Thank you, Harrison." I replied. I leaned forward to give him a peck on the lips or forehead or cheek, whatever was within reach but Harrison shook his head.
"Cisco and Caitlin should be visiting any moment, they'll both want to check on your physical and mental welfare. We'll need to keep you for at least two more weeks, some time will be spent on your recovery and the other part will be dedicated to our testing." He explained.
I swallowed, disappointed that he didn't want to kiss me or want my kiss at all but more focused on not being preparing for the long weeks ahead and said "Of course if it's doctor's orders."
I closed my eyes and tried to fall back asleep.
