Trying to find happiness in the core of the First Sudanese Civil War was my Grandpapa goal. The First Sudanese Civil War was a conflict from 1955 to 1972 between the northern part of Sudan and the southern Sudan region that demanded representation and more regional autonomy. This war was very bloody and gruesome and very much affect a lot of families in Sudan, my Grandfathers were one of them. Deng Dak was born 1952 a few years before the beginning of the war. Trying to have a normal life with the war was very hard, but he tried to have one.
Deng tried to live his life simply so he actually went to school and became a teacher. But before that his life was an up and down rollercoaster. When he was a child his father work two days came for a few hours then went to work for another two days just to put food on the table. Since he was one of the oldest he had to take the responsibly to take care of the little kids and kind of be a father figure since his own was too busy working many hours a time so he didn't have much a childhood.
Granddad had to move around a lot due to the war. It seemed like wherever they went, death and war was following them. He tried a lot to make sure his family was safe so did whatever it took, so he received a lot of respect. After completely his first years, he got married to my Grandmother Nyahok Dak at the age of 20. He became a father a little bit after. He wanted to make sure his children would have a normal life and became very relieved after he got new that the war was over. After a few years later my grandfather died due to a heart attack, but he still lives forever in our hearts.
