Chapter 1: Aloha from Hawaii
***REVISED*** I wasn't happy how it came out the first time. I hope you understand it better from this revision. Enjoy! Vote & Comment!
All I wanted was a quiet summer, but instead I'm stuck at summer camp courtesy of my parents. This camp is located in Hawaii, which you might think is great, but for an anti-social freak of nature like me, I can't be more out of place. Not only do I hate the hot sun, but I can't even swim! If the island were to go down for some reason, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be going down with it. But other than water activities, I love being on land and I'm an excellent volleyball player. Anyways, my parents being the idiots that they are sent me to a camp near the beach on the big island called Camp Sunshine. Believe me, I'm not feeling the sun. Luckily, the camp is filled with kids my age, ranging from 18-20. Anyways, this camp is ALL SUMMER LONG. Like WTF were my parents thinking? I just graduated high school, as the valedictorian I might add; I thought that that would have been enough to relax this summer, instead of worrying about school. But I guess the world really doesn't want me to lay around all day useless.
This camp luckily has an awesome schedule. Mondays, we hike trails to see some gorgeous views, and are free to do whatever we want for the rest of the day. Tuesdays, we play "team-building games". Honestly I think it's just a sports day in disguise, but I don't mind. I really love playing volleyball, and chances are I'll get to do just that every Tuesday. Wednesdays, we get to learn how to cook a variety of Hawaiian dishes. Thursdays, we get to go into the nearest town and spend the whole day exploring. Friday, there will always be a bonfire by the beach near sunset, and we can toast marshmallows as well as tell each other scary stories. Saturday, we're expected to do an activity with our cabin roommate. I don't know who I will get because it's chosen at random, but I was hoping I would get my best friend Anna. Unfortunately, she's in another cabin. Anna Walker is the bestest friend I could ever ask for. Her dark brown hair and expressive blue eyes give her that innocent look, but she's anything but! She's honestly gotten me into more trouble than I could ever want, but I still love her to pieces. When she heard I was going away for the whole summer, she begged her parents to let her go too. We're both attending the University of Notre Dame, but her major is Biochemistry, and I'm Neuroscience and Behavior. We won't get to see each other that often, even though we're roommates; it's a lot of research for both of us. I'm still glad she was willing to give her summer up for me. I'm hoping I can sneak in as much reading as possible around camp activities. In case you couldn't tell, I'm a huge bookworm.
I reached camp about 2 hours ago, and unpacked all my things in the cabin I was assigned to. There were 15 cabins in total, and each cabin has 2 beds, with 1 bathroom, and a living/sitting room. I guess the camp is super inclusive, so I should feel lucky that I won't have to see that many faces. The big cabin is 2 story structure that is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Inside the building is the mess hall and big common space, where I'm supposed to head to in about an hour. I'm only sitting on my bed now because Anna's arriving at the same time our meeting is, so she'll join in, and then I can help her unpack after lunch. I also want to know who my roommate is. I'm in Cabin 15, which honestly seems really far away from the other cabins. Anna's in Cabin 5, which is much closer to the big cabin. I excited and terrified to meet my roommate for the summer. I tried begging one of the camp leaders for her name, but she wouldn't budge,
"You'll meet them once they come to your cabin." She smiled. Ughh, I was tempted to steal the list from her, but then I would've been in big trouble, and I typically try to stay away from trouble.
Creakkk I heard the cabin door open. A guy that looked to be my age dragged in a huge navy blue bag. Now, I don't typically gawk at guys, but let's just say he became the exception. From the back, well he looked fine as hell. He definitely worked out to have the muscles he has rippling across his shoulders as he carried his huge bag. He had black hair with light brown highlights, clearly loving the outdoors. He was definitely a foot taller than my 5'3''. Damn, I was hoping for a girl my age. He turned around and gave me a smirk.
"Well, hello there gorgeous."
