Abigail pulled me away from Evan, even though I pouted and didn't want to go.
"Too bad, Mads," she said. "I'm not goin' hunting alone."
I made a face. "Fine."
Emmett came downstairs holding Rosalie's hand. "Did I hear we're going hunting?" he asked. I looked at his eyes. Coal black.
I looked away, and tried not to concentrate on the burning in my throat. "Yeah... Abby's going."
"Not alone," Abigail said, glaring at me. "You come or I'll make you."
I growled playfully; Abby laughed and grabbed my arm, dragging me out the door. I whined and said, "I'm not thirsty, Abs."
But she made a face and tapped her head. Like Maggie, Abigail could tell when people were lying. I had always tried not to dwell on that.
Abigail smelled the air. "Ugh, only deer," she said. Almost all of us -the Cullens- hated deer blood; Abigail and I were among them.
I made a face. "How about we run over to California?" I suggested. "I hear they have a mountain lion overflow."
"Okay," she replied, and we darted off southwards.
I suppose now is the best time to explain everything -since you probably don't want to listen about how vampires hunt; it's really gory for most humans.
You see, Morgan, Abigail, Evan, and I are in the Cullen family. We aren't mentioned very much; Carlisle thinks that if our family were too large, people would start to suspect something were... unusual, I guess. We all have powers: Morgan can see the future like Alice, Abigail can sense if others are lying like Maggie, Evan can manipulate and feel the emotions of others around him like Jasper, and I can feel and cause and stop pain in those around me, somewhat like Jane's power. Alright, we were done hunting by this time...
I wiped my mouth with my sleeve and sat on a large rock. Abigail smirked at me.
"So ladylike," she muttered.
I smiled innocently. "Have I ever been a lady?" I asked. Abby rolled her eyes.
"Guess not," she said in defeat. "I'm full for at least a week. You?"
"Yup." I stood up and stretched, though stretching isn't very useful to a vampire. "Ready to go back to Forks?" I asked. She nodded and we headed back to our little hometown.
We got there about forty five minutes later; sometimes having extreme speed has its perks. I tackled Evan from behind, who was talking to Emmett.
"Boo!" I yelled. He chuckled and kissed my nose.
"You scared me," he teased. I smirked.
"I'm so frightening," I murmured.
"Alright, alright, lovebirds," Morgan mumbled. I got up and skipped over to her.
I laughed and ruffled her hair. She made a face; she hates when I do that. I smiled innocently. "I wonder what Alice was thinking earlier?" I said, looking at Edward.
"Nope, not telling." He had a smug expression on his face.
"Meanie," I grumbled. Edward smirked and I walked over to him to smack his arm.
He rolled his eyes. "So terrifying, Madeline," he said, sarcasm flowing thick.
I bared my teeth at him. "Zip it," I growled.
Edward closed his topaz eyes. "Freak," he muttered. I rolled my eyes.
"At least she doesn't read people's minds for reasons I cannot say, since children are here," Alice said as Mitchell and Sophia, the two children I somehow was able to produce, came in with Embry Call, one of the Quileute pack members came in; Embry had imprinted on Sophia when she was a few days old. I didn't mind very much, so long as he didn't do anything with her that he shouldn't. It's a free babysitting service.
Embry covered Sophia's ears. "Okay, say it."
Alice glared at him. "There are TWO children here, mutt," she informed him as if he were a child. Alice didn't like Embry very much since he had imprinted on Sophia. In fact, she normally avoided him unless directly spoken to.
I rolled my eyes. "Hey, be nice." Alice made a face at me. "Be nice or I won't let you take Sophia out shopping again," I threatened. She always loved playing dress-up with Evan's and my daughter.
"Oh, fine. C'mon, Soph." Alice took her upstairs to play some runway-model game thing.
I sat on the couch and turned on the TV to the news. Something about a 'serial killer' was featured. I sighed. "They don't suspect a thing. This is completely the work of someone powerful, wanting to get rid of us... Again." I cringed, remembering Victoria and her plan a few years ago. I wasn't in the coven for that, sadly. I would've loved to kick some newborn ass.
Edward rolled his eyes. "Really, Mad?"
I stuck out my tongue. "Stay outta my head."
"Yes, ma'am."
"Don't be a smart-alec," Esme scolded him. I fought a smile. Someone got in trouble, I thought tauntingly to him. I hoped he heard that.
Morgan suddenly stared off into space, into nothingness. "Morgs?" I asked, getting up and jumping over the couch. I ran over to her. "Morgan, what do you see?"
"The Volturi," was her simple reply.
"When?"
"Soon. I don't know exactly, but they are planning a visit."
Crap.
Morgan jumped. "How soon?" I asked.
"I couldn't really tell," she admitted. Alice practically flew down the stairs.
"Guys, guys! I just had a vision!"
Edward read her mind and said, "Morgan had the same just a moment ago." Alice frowned; she never had gotten used to the fact that someone else had her power, though Morgan's were more clear and most of the time, she could tell who's made the decision. Alice hardly could.
Sophia stepped down the stairs looking adorable in high heels that must've been Alice's. I giggled, leave it to my kid to always break the tension. "Mommy," she said. "Looky what Auntie Alice let me wear!"
I smiled at her. "Aw, Soph, you're growing up." Embry smirked and picked her up.
"We'll be at La Push if you need us," he informed Evan and me.
I cleared my throat.
"What?"
"Embry, don't you think the polite thing would be to ask her PARENTS first?" I questioned.
"Uh, pass." I rolled my eyes at him and told him to go. Mitchell followed his sister's protector and shut the door behind them.
"That dog is so childish, I don't see how you let him watch Mitchie and Sophia," Alice stated.
I smirked. "Jealous?"
"No." She hid her face. Evan and Jasper looked at each other. Abigail glared at Alice.
"Don't lie," Abby said. "It's painful."
Alice stuck out her tongue. I laughed. Emmett whined, "Can we go hunting? I'm dying of thirst."
I closed my eyes, and opened them again to find Emmett staring at me with a puppy-dog face. I was his favored hunting partner out of the others, since grizzlies were my favorite meal as well. "Sorry, Em," I said. "But Abs just took me hunting. I'm full."
"Damn," he replied, glaring at Abigail.
"Hey, be nice," I said. I was very protective of Morgan and Abigail, my favorite sisters, and best friends.
Emmett rolled his eyes, and Esme went to go clean the kitchen, in preparation for the Volturi's arrival soon.
I braced myself.
