¤ Prologue ¤

Breathless. That is what I was. I never found myself with fear to be choking me while having a stable stamina. Was I that weak? I ran non-stop because I felt there was no where, no place to go, even though I knew exactly where I was. This was it. I'm finally... late. My skin was jumping with nervousness as I gripped onto my phone and keys tightly in my sweaty palm. Then I remembered I was still running.

Where was I going again? Right. The office.

I kept going past the entrance. Before I was supposed to start classes today, I made sure to memorize the map of the different buildings, but just in case, I had it folded up with my first semester schedule in the back pocket of my shorts. I was so scared about coming back here that I was distracting myself. After all that time on my Dad's plane, I was thinking about all the memories I had here in Hanover. I did everything here... my first dance recital, my spelling bee, starting all my first days in elementary school, middle school, and high school, and even my first day of pre-school. I was born here, for goodness sake! I still wonder as to why Mom and Dad wanted to move to Ireland and expand the business there because when we got there, the rest of the family was fine and well supported. Carrying out in thought meant... me slamming into a wall and falling with what I thought could be graceful gravity.

Ouch, that was definitely not there when I was still running ahead.

The wall was taking forced breaths and then the ground's arms wrapped around my waist. My body froze and I was completely tense because I realized my legs were intertwined with others. It was like a fairytale again, with deadlines that ended the magic. I didn't know what to do. My arms had a great grip of a broad, muscular, and heavy chest; a man's chest. He exhaled and his unique scent got caught in my nose and caressed my face. His scent was unusual, but sweet enough to make my head swim. I felt my heart drumming like how a hummingbird's wings fly, practically jumping out of my chest and throat. If I lifted my face, I knew for sure I would be in the crook of his neck. For some reason I heard his heart make an uneven thump almost afraid to keep beating.

That's really weird.

His velvety warm voice made his throat vibrate as he made words into music whispering, "La tua cantante." I jumped when I felt his cold fingers brush the tip of my hip bones past my jean shorts to grasp my waist firmly. Slowly and gently as if I were glass, he lifted me and placed me on the ground beside him. My long hair shifted to the opposite side during the movement. He was just about to get up and I found myself stammering.

"I-I-I-um... Gosh, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to bump into you like that. I was just in a-a-a rush and then I just---" With embarrassment in my tone, I looked up to gaze into his hazel eyes and tried to keep my face expressionless when I noticed that...

What. The. Hell. Just. Happened.

I shook my head a bit to make sure I wasn't dreaming before I was going to look back at this man's features once again. I didn't want to risk saying something stupid so I bit my bottom lip, but before I could look up again, I was granted a rather large and cold hand that I cautiously grabbed and had lifted me off the ground. What do I say? It's been years... And I seriously mean like 3 years. I anxiously waited till he would say something because I was at a loss for words. In my mind I tried to figure out what could've happened during this period of time, but unfortunately I was clueless.

Liam Holt.

It just has to be a coincidence that I just so happen to be in front of the Liam Holt, and I totally made a fool out of myself.

Why do I have to be such a klutz?

"Are you okay?" His smooth voice was edged with a bit of depth. I put my legs together so my knees couldn't shake or fall again while feeling like jelly.
