RECAP:

To my relief I could hear the noisy night bus come up the road. I started to go to the edge of stop but he grabbed my upper arm and stopped me. I turned to face him.

“Don’t worry I’ll wait for you here everyday. I know you have no other way of heading home. Your name?” His grasp tightened and I was forced to answer, “Anne” He let go of me, smiling at his victory.

I stumbled forward but regained balance and mounted the bus fast.

I knew I was in a mess and there was no escaping it.

Jason was getting on my nerves. I had no other way of going home and I knew he would be there everyday. I could not wait to shift to that apartment/flat. Then I would have a different route of coming back. 

This was not the only problem. Jake was spreading stories about 'us' and I could do nothing. He would try to show off to his friends how I am his girlfriend whenever I ran into them in corridors or cafeteria. It was making me sick.

Ryan on the other hand would smile or wave but not in front of Jake. He had understood the Jake thing without bugging for the reason he blackmails me with. I had to hold back my feelings for Ryan. I could not risk being exposed. Ryan was a nice guy but I had long ago lost trust on people, part of me wanted to tell him and felt that he would understand but then my other side took over and all such intentions were crushed. I could not tell. 

All this was killing me I inside. 

It was after school I was crossing the parking lot when my name was called. I turned around to see Ryan walking up to me. 

"Hey" He said catching up.

"Hi"

"Doesn't Jake drop you."I shook my head"That Sh..." he sighed, " what can I say? He is torturing you like that and can't even drive you home". He said waving his arms, " I can give you a ride" He asked.

"Hey calm down, walking is just as fun, try it sometime" It's the worst think ever, I thought to myself, “I can't go with you, Jake will know" At least Jake is giving me a reason to hide my house. Even thought I go to store after school I could not let Ryan meet anyone there. They knew about my poor condition. 

"You are right, wish I could do something! So I wanted to ask you if you can meet me tonight.” He asked.

I sighed," I can't I am busy till midnight".

"Can you meet me after that?"

I looked up, I could tell by looking in his eyes that he was silently pleading.

"I'll meet you at 7:00 I can always change plans". I smiled; I had to miss the restaurant shift. I could not meet after midnight. I was happy at the prospect of not having to face Jacob.

"Pick me up from the park in front of that ____ store." I answered, already excited about tonight. I wanted to wear my new clothes; mom had bought me the other day. I snapped out of my fantasy as he spoke,

"By the way I have a surprise for you tonight." He told me. 

I was about to say what when he said "surprise means surprise, so gonna see you then and are you sure you want to walk?" He seemed worried.

"It’s healthy, I'll go, bye,” I assured him with a small laugh, waving. My heart was screaming at myself about how caring he is and what would the surprise be tonight?
