Chapter 37

Isadora

It takes me about three seconds to change, throwing on the first cute outfit I get my hands on. Five minutes later (the whole time I'm still internally squealing over the fact that I just got the autograph of Edgar Allen Poe!) he points to the one-story warehouse we're going to.

Riding past, I stare at the block-something-long line, despairing the fact that we'll have to join all those people. Didn't he say this was a small club? We park a few blocks down and walk back to the graffiti-covered building. I'm so glad I wore my Converses and not the flats I was thinking about, my feet would already be killing me and I haven't even danced yet.

As we're waiting in line Lin pulls my necklace from his pocket and hands it to me. It has a new cord; this one a super fine gold chain with a magnet clasp(since I know what it looks like now, I don't have to make a fool of myself like the last chain). Putting it on, I'm reassured by the weight as the pendant settles on my collarbone.

After standing in line for what feels like ages, we finally make it to the front. The bouncer, closing the rope after the couple in front of us, holds up his hand to stop us. He only says one word, "proof." Proof of what? ID? Not knowing what to do, I look over to Linden... who's baring his fangs at the bouncer! Is he insane? We could be discovered! Looking back at the other people in line I notice they all have fangs or red eyes (some obviously fake and some that just might be real). Oh, maybe that's how you get in. Following Lin's example, I bare my own fangs, suddenly feeling very nervous.

The girl behind us, somehow catching a glimpse of my fangs, says, slightly slurs due to her obviously plastic fangs, "wow! Those fangs look so realistic! Where did you get them?"

After a few creepy seconds of her staring wonderingly at my mouth, I say the first thing that comes to my mind, "a private auction on eBay. Seller was an old movie vampire." Looking over to Lin I see his approving look as he smiles at the girl, who practically swoons under his gaze.

"You are so lucky," she says breathlessly as Lin grabs my hand and leads me inside. If only she knew the real story...

As we walk in we step onto a sort of balcony overlooking the dance floor. No wonder it's only one story; everything's below ground. The floor is packed, more so than I thought possible. Strobe and black lights are everywhere, constantly shifting and making the people below look like aliens. In one corner near the DJ there is a group head-banging to the song booming from the speakers around the room; some rock song about vampires' lust, power, and control. It sounds vaguely familiar but I can't place who it's by, God-something? Through Rob I've gotten an appreciation for rock, but I don't really pay attention to the bands, more which songs I like.

Leading me down the stairs, Linden pulls me past the bar, points to the hall leading to the bathrooms, and brings me onto the dance floor. Looking over the heads of everyone I can, I spot a bunch of open curtains showing many small rooms with couches and tables. I really don't want to know what's going on behind the closed curtains.

As that song ends Lin leaves me next to the crowd of, now former, head-bangers and I watch as he shoulders his way to the DJ booth and  taps on the DJ's shoulder. When he turns around and Lin screams something in his ear, he nods, making his dreads swing, and Lin gives him a thumbs up as he pushes his way back to me. "You'll love this!" he screams as the next song start blaring "who is this irresistible creature who has an insatiable love for the dead?"

All around us there is a collective scream that I can only assume is the next line, "LIVING DEAD GIRL!" He was right, I do love this song. About two seconds after the song starts I take part in my first mosh pit.
