I've been waiting for hockey season to start ever since it ended last year.
Not one time over break have I thought about anything but hockey. Other then girls of course. Hockey is my whole life. I practice everyday even with no ice to skate on. My whole life revolves around hockey. Don't believe me? Check the dents on my garage door and all the broken pucks scattered around the yard. Ask my parents about all the windows I've broken. But that's just at my old house. Ever since we have moved its been different. Worse than normal actually. There's not a second in the day that I don't spend practicing for the hockey season in some way.
This move has affected me a lot. I was not prepared and neither was my mother. My father left us recently and my mom didn't know what to do and I didn't know what to do to help her. So she moved us to her hometown where her parents live to help us try to get somewhat back to normal. But moving from California to Nebraska has left not only my mom broken but me too. I left some of my best friends behind. I had to break up with my girlfriend and I had to miss out on getting a set hockey scholarship to the University of California.
My mom is convinced that this move will help us. But after leaving all that behind, I'm not so sure it will.
I eat sleep and breathe hockey. So getting back on the ice today is going to help release a lot of stress. The season starts today but I'm in a new town at a new school with a new team and a new coach. Being the new kid at school halfway through the school year may be harder than I thought. Especially since the boys hockey team is expected to go to state this year. That not only puts a lot of stress on me to adapt to the team and coach and learn from them but it also puts a lot of stress on them to adapt to me. They could always make the decision not to play me but that wouldn't be ok with me.
Fortunately for me, I am already friends with a few of my new teammates. Whenever I'd come visit my grandparents over Christmas growing up, I'd go play pond hockey with some of the kids from the neighborhood. There I met Connor Cabrey, who is my grandparents' neighbor and the son of my moms best friend. He and I instantly became best friends when we were very young because our families are so close and because of our love for hockey. So even though we lived halfway across the country from each other, we remained best friends. I also met Kipper Hanson, Dawson Boyd and Jonah Rubio. I wasn't quite as close to them as I was with Connor but they were still my good friends so I was excited to see them all again.
