Piece by piece it erodes away
devoured by the sea.
The love we had yesterday
the people we used to be.
There it goes among the waves,
what once we thought was set in stone.
Cast about by the wind, and into oceans depth is thrown.
Waves that once sounded like laughter
breaking against the shore
now is deemed a mocking song
of what now is, no more.
Petal by petal
the morning flower is plucked for all its worth.
Left to whither in the sun
its blessing now a curse.
There they, fly into the wind like white flags unfurled,
claiming "we surrender" to the melancholy of the world.
Petals that once graced us with sweet sent, and pure delight
now depart without consent like thieves into the night.
Drop by drop
the candle drips, consumed by the flame.
Passion becomes emptiness, while pleasure becomes pain
as we try and fail, to retrieve, what we have surly lost.
imprisoned in the chambers of our hearts, and away the key have tossed.
Day by day
we wonder what could have gone wrong
again and again grasping for what is already gone.
Step by step we trod away from where we once stood,
the night you first said "I love you" like all lovers should.
but when those words began to became faded, and you had enough
of what once was perfect romance now only jaded love.
