The trumpets blared harshly into his ear canal, causing John to wake up flailing from his once peaceful, blessedly dream-less sleep. Keadilan sprang up from his sleeping form at once into the air as a morning lark as his human turned the alarm off and sat up to stretch himself awake.
Slowly his senses came to him, and the moment they did John groaned and flopped backwards into bed, throwing his arm out to shield his eyes from the world. Keadilan swooped down and landed gingerly on the dishwasher blonde's thick arm before gently pecking John's head.
"Go away, no one's home." John mumbled. Keadilan tilted his head and hummed,
"Well that's too bad. I've got an important job to do, and I must see to it."
John fought back a smile, "Oh?" he feigned surprise, "and what's this all-important job of yours?"
Keadilan preened, "I've got to escort the most important person in the entire universe to their first day of school, of course!" at this, John moved his arm away from his face, causing Keadilan to lose his balance. Before he toppled over completely he transformed as an orange tabby cat and purred contently under John's touch.
John looked into emerald eyes, and Keadilan into cobalt blue. Although they were different colors, they knew they belonged to the same being. They were One.
John heaved a weary sigh before lifting the cat daemon off his chest and rolled himself off the bed. Keadilan rolled around the spot he had just vacated, and John laughed as the little orange cat showed his sandpaper tongue in jest.
John dressed quickly; throwing on his best shirt, a plaid red, white, and pale blue button down and a pair of dark denim jeans he checked his reflection only to find that something seemed to be missing. Before he could think of what it could be, Keadilan flew down onto his shoulder in the form of a blue jay, holding a white wristwatch in his beak.
"That's what it was missing," John chuckled before shooting the bird a smile,
"Thanks mate."
Keadilan preened again before playfully nipping John's ear and darting towards the door. "Come on John, we'll be late for school!"
John rolled his eyes but grinned none the less as he opened the door to the hallway that would eventually lead to the kitchen.
When he got there, his mother had already been up hours prior, preparing breakfast. She smiled up at her son as he made his way down the stairs and pecked her on the cheek with a kiss.
Keadilan landed on the floor with a graceful thump, now a smaller version of his mother's Lynx daemon, which waisted no time in engaging Keadilan in some play wrestling as John speedily shoveled down scrambled eggs and jam slathered toast.
