It was dark and foggy.  No living soul would be able to see in the misty cold night.  Although the moonlight was shining, the mist was much too thick.  As the moon shined brighter, I heard the call of the lake, the swamp, the pond, the call of water.  Immediately I walked slowly to the lake.  It was the closest.  I tried.  I forced myself to go back, but it was too late.  I had put one foot in the cold lake. I submerged into the water and as I was waist deep, I heard a soft and familiar voice. “Adriana! What are you doing out there!  The camp counselor is gonna find you!  Quick! Get back!” I kept on going.  It was like a force.  Then the worst part happened.  I heard the lantern Zane was holding fall to the ground, and break into a million shattered mirrors.  He had seen it.  The transformation.

It was a class trip.  We were off camping.  I remember this place as if it were yesterday.  Tall trees, green grass, animals peering everywhere, and the bodies of water.  The lake, the pond, and the swamp.  All beautiful.  We hiked towards out camping site, and stopped to rest.  As we stopped I heard a loud and very annoying shriek.   It was Courtney Williams after she saw a small worm.  As she kept on shrieking, I picked up the tiny worm and placed it on a rock, where it wriggled away.  I know exactly why she screamed though.  Courtney is one of those girls who do every single thing to try and get as much attention as possible.  She is my worst enemy.  Here’s the story.  I’ll be honest.  I’m a bit jealous of how thin she is, but something I would never want from her is advice.  She always takes my friends away from me telling them if they left me that she would make them popular.   I lost a lot of friends that way.  The only friend that refuses all the time is Cindy.  My best friend.  Once Courtney takes my friends away, she tells them she was only lying to them to make me miserable.  When my friends try to talk to me again I simply ignore them.  That’s not the worst part though.  That little she devil is always trying to be better than me, making me feel miserable, and will do anything to sound like she is smarter than me.  She always cheats on my tests, and copies my school work.  She even took my homework once and handed it in as her own.  Luckily my best friend was there to see what happened and Courtney totally got busted.  I don’t understand.  What did I ever do to her?  She always ruins things for me.  But I won’t let her ruin this trip for me.

As we walked, I was in the front with Cindy.  We were able to walk faster than Courtney considering she is wearing ten inch heels, and ate six hotdogs before we came on this trip.

We finally reached out campsite, where we ate and sang songs.  That day was all about relaxation, and letting the hands of nature keep us comfortable.

After a few minutes we talked as a group. Our camp “counselor” Mr. Olives decided to tell scary stories under the moon light.  He went first.

“There once was a little boy named Francis.  He used to be bullied so much.  Kicked, punched, and the worst of all, he was a swirley magnet.  No one would ever help him.  Until one day, when two jerks were throwing perfectly good broccoli at him, a beautiful girl named Sally Jackson stomps over, her little pigtails hopping.  She grabbed both boys by the ear and threw them into the gross chocolate pudding.  She carried me,- uh I mean him off.  Twenty three years later they got married.  They now live happily ever after in a peach colored house with circular windows, a cat named Freddy, two grown kids, and a station wagon.  Oh and they live on Applewood St.”

I laughed at the fact that Mr. Olives had just described his love life.  It was cute though.  Billy Hunter went next.

“There was a young couple.  They were newlyweds on their honey moon.  They drove to this same exact spot.  Same campsite too.  They were so happy to be here.  Especially because they had a baby due soon.  Little did they know that going there was the biggest mistake of their lives.  The baby was coming.  They had to drive home.  But when they got to their parking spot, their car was gone.  They searched and searched but it was nowhere to be found.  Then all of a sudden, they heard a strange heavy breathing behind them.  Then a drop of mud fell on their shoulders.  They turned around only to find behind them the terrifying Swamp Bride.”
