**Emma's POV**
I woke up and my little puppy was missing. Shit. What happened? I was talking to those people...they wanted my puppy...and then nothing. Oh! The wolves! What the actual fuck? I was seeing things. I had been hit in the head. That was the only explanation for the pain in my head. I looked around. I was in cage. An animal cage. I was afraid to jinx the situation, but could things get any weirder?
I crawled to the cage door and tried to open it. There was a little latch that you lift from the outside, but with my small fingers, I pushed up. It came undone. Did they not think to lock it better? Or maybe this was their plan all along. If I "escaped" they could do something worse? This could all be set up.
I had to find my little puppy though, I could think about the situation later. I looked around. I was on a campground. So I couldn't be far from where ever it was we had come from. It was also getting dark. This would be the perfect time for him to show up.
I sighed. He wasn't going to randomly show up. I was mental myself for thinking it. I glanced around again. There were a couple of tents, a cabin, and three trucks. But where was everyone? I cautiously walked up to the cabin. Well, cautiously meaning I crouched like a ninja and then ran for it when I saw the coast was clear.
I walked to the door, peaked my head in, looked from side to side, and once I saw the coast was clear, I walked in. There was no upstairs. There was a bathroom, which was empty, and a back room, which was also empty. Where were they? And why the hell did they leave their trucks here? I searched everywhere for keys. I looked in every drawer in the kitchen, I looked through the pants in the bathroom, and I finally found them sitting on the couch. As I walked to pick them up, I saw the rug was sitting kinda funny. There seemed to be a bump in it. I walked over and lifted it, and sure enough, there was a latch. Did I lift it?
Of course I did.
As I picked it up, a staircase was revealed. Oh shit. Naturally, I went down. I was the stupid white girl, but unlike the films, I didn't call out. No one needed to know of my presence down here. It was dark and the air was heavy. The stair case was relatively new, it didn't creak at least. I made it to the bottom and greenish light was illuminating the room. I quickly surveyed the place and saw what appeared to be a chemistry lab. As my eyes adjusted to the awkward lighting I saw three cages. Two had people in them and one had my puppy. Oh my god! They expirmented on people! They were going to use my puppy!
I ran to the cages and surprisingly, they were like mine. Why didn't these people just unlock it themselves? The first cage I went to was a girl about my age. She looked awful. She had been beaten, that much was obvious. She was starved. And her eyes looked...she looked like all hope in the world was gone. "Come on." I beckoned to her when the door was open. "I'm not going to hurt you. I want to get you out of here."
I walked to the other cage, unlatched it, and this one had an older guy sitting behind the bars. He too, had been beaten and starved. These poor people. "Come on. I'm not going to hurt you either. I'm going to get you guys out of here."
Then I went straight to my puppy. I got her out, made sure I had the truck keys, made sure the other two were following, and I headed back up the stairs. I made sure the coast was clear in the cabin before going all the way back up the steps. The two followed me. I closed the latch back over the stairs and fixed the rug. "Come on guys." I made sure the coast was clear, clicked unlock, and found the truck that was waiting for us. I ran towards it, the two behind me limped. Ah shit, they were hurt. I opened the door, put the puppy in, and ran back so they could use me to lean against. I was terrified they would come back while I was assisting them to the truck. We were going awfully slow.
I didn't even wait until they were buckled up, I got the hell out of there. I didn't know where the fuck to go though. I followed the tire tracks out of this place, but it was pitch black. So, we drove. I didn't speak. They didn't speak. We drove until we hit that little town. The creepy one. I drove right through. I was not stopping here. Something was off about it.
Then I remembered my Dad. Crap. I felt around in my jeans and sure enough, my phone was still there. The people that kidnapped me were obviously the most incompetent people ever. They didn't lock the cages, they left me with my cell phone, they left us unguarded, the list could go on. I pulled out my phone, and since it was a dire emergency, I unlocked it. I quickly sent a text to my dad telling him I was fine. Sorry I'm still out! Love you! I was going to be grounded for life for this. There's not a chance in hell he's going to believe what happened to me. Then I looked down. We needed to stop and get gas.
"Guys. I'm running low on fuel. I think we're going to have to steal another truck." I looked in the rearview mirror, and the girl was fast asleep, but the older man nodded. "Are you from around here?"
He shook his head.
"Do you know of a place I can stop?"
He shook his head.
"Do you know why those people kidnapped you?"
He shook his head.
"Okay. Well, I guess we'll drive and hopefully we'll stumble across a place soon." As I said that, I checked my rearview mirror. Another truck was behind us. I didn't think it was a coincidence. We were being followed. Shit.
I tried to act calm, for the sake of the poor guy in the back. The girl looked peaceful asleep but he, he looked worried. It was almost as if he knew all of this was too good to be true. Like, at any moment he would be taken back to that hellhole. And I would be damned if I let it happen. But what the hell could I do? The tank was on empty, and I had no idea where the hell we were.
God, save us please. Anyone.
I took a few deep breaths and heard my phone buzz beside me. Oh honey, you found your phone? That's great! Your friends said you lost it! Have fun! I knew you would be out late! --Dad.
So they got to my family huh? Assholes.
Up ahead, there was nothing but road. There were no other cars. There absoultely no lights. Nothing. It was us, the people who wanted us, the forest, and the road. If the girl and the guy weren't in such a bad condition, I would have suggested we get out and run, find somewhere to hide. I nervously glanced back again, they were getting closer. I sped up. They did too. Then out of nowhere, the truck stopped. Not paying attention to the road in front of me, I glanced back, and almost hit a giant wolf. Maybe that's why they stopped. I swerved, trying to avoid hitting the wolf, and the truck spun out of control. Luckily we didn't tip over, but we did land in a ditch.
"Are you guys okay?" I looked behind me at the guy, who was clutching on to the girl for dear life. She was alseep still, but he nodded. My puppy seemed to be fine as well, she whined once and when I reached down to pet her, she licked my hand. I got out of the truck to asses the damage. It looked fine. There didn't appear to be any damage, much to my luck. I looked around, the other truck was gone, and so was the wolf. This was the most bizarre situation ever.
