Going Home

"Beth!" She heard her name being called repeatedly. "Beth!" Whoever was calling her name was shaking her, trying to bring her out of the dark haze she found herself in. But she didn't want to wake up. When she was awake she was exhausted and in pain, none of that could reach her here. The person shook her again. Beth was awake now but kept her eyes closed, trying to crawl back into the comforting darkness.

"What's wrong with her?" A female voice asked. "There's blood all over her, where is it coming from." I felt hands moving over me, searching for the source of my bleeding. They finally landed on my gunshot wound, my eyes shot open and I gasped as the person put pressure on it.

"Beth? Are you okay? What happened?" I now recognized the voice to be Glenn's as I looked over at my brother-in-law.

"They had me tied up." I choked out of my raw throat, slowly sitting up. "The one who had me, he shot me right before you guys left. I don't remember exactly what happened after that, but next thing I knew I woke up tied to a tree. I broke through the rope and found my knife, but my arm won't stop bleeding. Every time I moved, the wound opened again." Glenn took my hand and wrapped one arm around me, helping me stand up.

"Come on." He said. "We should get back, get you to the infirmary. Can you walk?" I tried taking a couple steps, but even with Glenn's support my knees buckled. "Okay, that's okay, I'll carry you." And with that he slipped one arm under my knees and the group started walking again.

"What did they want?" Abraham asked. "Those guys who had you, what did they want?"

"Alexandria." I replied, leaning my head on Glenn's shoulder, fighting the exhaustion. "They said they were gonna take it. I got out when they were asleep, I didn't kill them. It wouldn't have worked, I couldn't take on all three at once. They are still out there and they will probably be able to follow my tracks. They will be able to figure out where Alexandria is and I don't know what will happen when they do."

"Don't worry about that now Beth. We will tell Rick when we get back, he will have a plan, he always does. Just rest." Michonne coaxed, from her place at Glenn's side. Her eyes never stopped scanning our surrounding for potential threats.

"Maggie is going to kill us." Glenn said.

"Never mind Maggie." Abraham said, now trying his best to cover our tracks. "The three of us better go into hiding, as soon as Daryl gets back we are dead. Ain't nothin' that can save us from that angry redneck."

"Daryl's not back yet?" I whisper, my heart thumping in my chest. "But he was supposed to be back yesterday! What if something happened?"

"Don't worry, you know him. He probably just found something nice for you and wanted to figure out a way to get it home." Michonne narrowed her eyes at the two men, making them both shrink back in fear. I guess she could be right, it had happened before. Daryl had found a piano while he was on a run and he was a day late trying to get the thing back to me. I love it though.

"Yeah Beth, don't worry about it." Glenn said, his voice strained. "Daryl will be back before you know it. I just hope we get you back first. Now rest until we get back, your already injured, we don't want to give your boyfriend anymore reasons to kill us." With that last statement all the talking stopped and I drifted off, back into the darkness that protected me from my pain.

When I woke up, I was tucked into a bed. I took in my surroundings, I could tell by all of the equipment that I was in the infirmary in Alexandria. After laying there for a couple more minutes, I heard voices.  It was Rick and Glenn.

"He's still not back." Rick said. "I'm starting to worry. He is almost two days late. If he isn't back by tomorrow night then we are sending out a search party. They can take one of the cars and Daryl left a map marked with the spots they were trying."

"I'll go." Glenn said, his voice louder than Rick's was. They were getting closer.

"You just got back, I don't want to make you go out again." Rick reasoned.

"Yeah but.....when we lost the prison I didn't look for Beth. She's Maggie's sister, she's my family and I didn't even try. Even after Daryl told us she was alive. Now Daryl is the most important thing in this world to her, not even Maggie can get through to her like he does. If she loses him...then we might as well have never found her. She won't be able to go on. I'm going to find Daryl for Beth, because that's what family does." Glenn said. They were standing outside of my door now, I could see their shadows.

"Well, let's hope it doesn't have to come to that." Rick said, opening the door and peaking his head in to check on me. Once he saw that I was awake he walked into the room and sat in the chair stationed beside my bed. "How are you holding up?" He asked.

"Daryl's still not back?" I asked, my worry for him overpowering everything else.

"You heard that, huh?" Rick said, looking down and twitching his fingers. "He'll be back Beth, but until he is all you need to worry about his getting better. If he gets back and you've hurt yourself more....let's just say it won't end well."

"I don't want to be here." I tell him. "Will you bring me home?"

"Yeah, come on. We'll get you home." Rick sighs.
