It wasn't until I was halfway down the stairwell that I realized that I didn't have the keys to my apartment. Or my purse at that matter.

I would be completely fine with turning around and going back to the roof to get it but the only problem is that it's not on the roof, it's in James' apartment.

I closed my eyes before stopping outside his door.

Reaching forward, I turned the knob letting out a breath as it didn't budge.

"If you're here to trash his apartment I promise I won't tell."

Quickly wiping at my eyes I turned around as Dave made his way down the steps.

I could feel my face heating up as his eyes searched my face before he offered me a smile.

He stepped around me before unlocking the door and stepping inside.

It took me a second to realize that he was holding it open for me so I followed him inside heading straight for the table, getting me stuff and heading back outside.

"Lola."

"Yeah?"

"You wanna go somewhere?" He asked running his hand over his hair. When I didn't immediately respond he added. "Maybe grab something to eat or something."

I couldn't really make out his expression but I still found myself shaking my head. "No it's fine, I don't wanna keep you from the party."

"It's not my kinda party," he shrugged the smile he gave me making me backtrack.

"Okay."

Stepping around him I led him down the stairwell giving him a smile as he reached around me to push the door open.

We ended up going to the nearest McDonalds and ordering a little more food than I care to admit.

I'm just one of those girls who eats when she's depressed, except normally it's just my Ben and Jerry's.

"Why are you living with your brother?"

He glanced up at me for a second, his brows furrowing as he buried his feet into the sand. Somehow we'd made our way down to the beach, talking about random things.

"You don't have to tell me-I'm sorry."

"No it's fine."

Keeping his gaze on his hands he faintly smiled, "I proposed to my girlfriend."

I knew exactly what her response had been before he even said it.

"But it turns out she was sleeping with the guy down the street."

"I'm sorry."

"You don't have to apologize." He waved, his smile almost convincing me it was okay. "You didn't make her sleep with him."

"I know it's just...you're such a nice guy, talking to you just makes me realize how dumb I am when it comes to the guys I date."

"You shouldn't blame yourself," he offered me a soft smile. "People don't show that they're assholes until after they sleep with you."

"If I didn't know any better I'd think you were talking about your brother."

"My brother's not a complete ass though," he laughed. "He just...isn't ready to settle down right now."

"Yeah, who is?"

Watching him smile to himself I got up as he took a drink.

Taking in his raised eyebrow I dusted off the sand off my dress before reaching forward for his hand.
