ELEANOR
"I- I've missed you," I said quietly, embracing him in a warm hug.
"I'm glad you're doing okay," He whispered back.
"Hey- give me some love too!" Emily joined in the hug, whispering something in Phil's ear that I didn't quite hear.
"Dan's in his room if you want to see him..." I remembered Dan, but only by a name. Apparently they were best friends but I have never personally met him. ",but would you like anything? Tea? Coffee?"
"Coffee," Emily said. "For both of us," Emily must've told Phil about my social anxiety, seeing as all he did was smile and grab two mugs from the pantry.
I felt awkward as Emily immediately stood by Phil's side, laughing and talking, though I took the time to observe, seeing as I haven't seen Phil in a long time.
Phil was a lot taller than Emily, and I believe she's 5'8. Emily was a bit more tan than Phil, but their hair color was about the same, the design? Kinda. Phil had a left-facing fringe while Emily had a more shaven pixie cut.
I easily found Emily beautiful, but Phil was more...cute and adorable rather than handsome. Don't get me wrong, he's still the same sunshine I knew from Uni. but not so much as the word handsome than adorable.
"Eleanor?" I shook my head slightly, embarrassed at the fact that I've been staring a bit too long.
Phil and Emily were sitting down already, and I was just standing up awkwardly, not completely knowing what to do.
I quickly stuck my hand in the back pocket of my jeans, and grabbed my phone. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but having my phone in my hand made me feel safe.
Without noticing, I found myself walking around Phil's apartment, finding things that I liked along the way.
As I was almost finished looking around the well-furnished home, I saw 2 doors at the corner of a wall. My curiosity got the better of me when I opened one of the doors.
I didn't know what I was expecting but when I opened the door, I was pleased. The room was kept nicely. The sheets were folded, desks clean, and other than the red sock I saw at the corner of the room, it was very neat.
I closed the door to the green-blue bedded room that I believed was Phil's and opened the door to its right. All I saw was a piano before a voice called, making me jump. "Phil?" I stayed silent, not knowing what to do. "Who is that?"
I opened the door a bit more, peeking my head out carefully, only to lock eyes with a half naked man who I recalled to be Dan. "Oh- um, hello,"
I waved sheepishly, not exactky knowing what to do. "Are you Eleanor?" I nodded, looking away.
"Oh, okay. Sorry, I didn't know you were here already, do you mind?" He wasn't specific, but I knew what he meant. I turned around, and I heard a shuffle and the lock of a door behind me, making me turn back around.
I saw a light in the bathroom that wasn't there before, telling me he went to change. I wasn't dumb, but I wasn't Sherlock either.
While Dan was in the bathroom, I took the time to look around. His room was neat too, but not as neat as Phil's. I also noticed that their bedding were matching; Phil's were blue-green checkered and Dan's were black-grey checkered.
But the thing that captured most of my attention was the piano.
The simple object of a piano brought back so many memories. Happy and sad. All the way back from Year 1 to now.
I sat down on the white butt-shaped chair that amused me and placed my fingers delicately on the clean piano.
And with a deep breath, I pressed hard on the keys, playing a soft melody of a song that I remember the notes of, but not the name. It felt nice, to just play the piano without much care. I remembered how hard it was for me to learn it, to memorize the notes and where it was on my old, crappy keyboard.
"You should be in a choir." My fingers wobbled over the piano, surprised at the sudden voice. "I- I mean, like play for the choir- not sing. Unless your voice is good. I- I'm not saying it's bad- but I never heard it before-"
"T- Thanks," He blushed slightly and crouched at the piano next to me. "Do you wanna sit here or-"
Dan interrupted by playing the song I was playing earlier, but in a lower key. He nudged me slightly, and I started to play the song but in a higher key.
It was a perfect melody, one that I was surprised at. His fingers pressed delicately onto the piano, keys ringing in my ear.
"That was amazing!" Phil and Emily gazed from the doorway.
Me and Dan blushed, not completely sure what to do. "T- thanks,"
-
"Lion King?" Phil was currently in the process of setting up a movie, though we couldn't completely decide which one to watch. "The Little Mermaid?"
We shook our heads, not pleased. "High School Musical?" Emily turned to look at me as I grinned and nodded like a fool.
"You like it?" Dan asked, a smile tugging at his lips.
I nodded once more. "Good. I knew there was something about you." Dan commented, taking a seat next to me.
