Monster

It was a hot Tuesday afternoon when I first noticed the abnormality.

I was in Math Class when my arm twitched. I looked down and to my horror, I saw something crawling under my skin. It was darting - as if trying to get out. I told myself I was probably hallucinating or it was a rare medical condition and ignored it until I noticed this again four days later. These crawling things spread to all parts of my body. It was really uncomfortable but I hid it from my family and friends by keeping my body covered with heavy apparel.

Then the weird stuff started.

One evening, I was doing homework in my room when I saw a lizard scamper across the doorway. Before I knew what I was doing, I raced down to it, grabbed it by the tail and squished the slimy thing in my mouth. I chewed and chewed till it was a sour sticky paste in my mouth and then swallowed it. It felt satisfying.

Later that night, I vomited and cried in the bathroom when I realised what I had done.

I had no idea what was happening to me or why. One night, as I was trying to do some internet research on this matter, I got extremely irritated by my little brother's poodle whining by my bed. I screamed in frustration, then reached out for it and dug my teeth onto its neck. I ripped out its throat and then spitting out the fur, started stuffing its insides into my mouth. When I looked up, I saw the shivering form of my little brother standing in the doorway, wide-eyed in horror. He let out a bloodcurdling shriek and started running away. I got up and sped after him till I pinned him down on the floor and strangled him to death. When my pulse rate became normal, I flopped down on the floor and cried for two hours.

I went to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. The crawling things under my skin were running wild now. My body was hurting. Unable to bear the pain, I fell to the ground and slowly watched as my skin peeled off, revealing a scaly spotted slimy body of  a monster. After three times of looking at myself in the mirror and consequently fainting in shock, I finally got used to my appearance.

I went to my room and wiped the poodle's blood off the floor. Then I gathered its remains, my brother's body and my shedded skin in a trash bag and dumped it in the trash bin in our yard. My parents had thankfully slept through it all. Thanks to the loud air conditioner in their room.

I wrapped myself in one of my Dad's long thick coats and left town by the 4:00 am train.

Today, I roam around in hiding, hunting and feeding in the night time. Although, I keep myself mainly restricted to animals, at times I can't help the greed for juicy human flesh.

I'm not a monster. I'm a lonely girl engulfed by savage fate. I miss my parents and my brother. I miss my best friend and my high school crush. I didn't choose to be what I am. But what can I do? I am a breathing organism and I need to kill in order to survive.

Oh, wait. I forgot to mention.

After years of hard work, I found out that this is a deadly virus; the origin of which is unknown. And the strange part is, it spreads through knowledge of the disease.

If you have read this, you will turn too.

Sorry.
