The following morning, Kai and Kaylen were woken up by a high-pitched squeal. They looked up. Aridia was already clambering all over, knocking a lot of things over.
"Oi! Stop that! I think Father is still asleep! Don't wake him up!" Kai hissed.
But Aridia wasn't listening. She was currently swinging from the wooden beam near the ceiling with her tail. Kaylen looked around. Everything was a total mess... The dragon hopped from plank of wood to plank of woof, obviously enjoying herself.
"Shh!" Kai managed to get her down and put a hand over her mouth. The baby just stared at him with innocent eyes.
"Kaylen... You clean up while I keep her quiet."
"Wha...? Why am I the one cleaning up?"
"Don't question it. This is payback for that so called rather loud fart you mentioned yesterday."
"Fine, fine... Admit it though, it was funny."
"Shut it and clean up." Kai grinned. Luckily nothing was broken. The hay was everywhere, covered in dust, and the twins' few belongings were here and there, all over the room. The clothes were no longer in a neat pile; they were indeed lying on the floor now.
A few minutes later, Kai was still there quietly holding the baby dragon, who seemed to have calmed down. The clothes were once again neatly piled up, and the room was all in all in less of a mess than before.
"Thank god she didn't wake Father up this time... Hey Kai, I suggest we go to the forest so she can use her energy for other things and purposes than wrecking stuff... What do you think? And we can leave Father a note explaining why we left; he should be alright for a day right?"
"Alright... Here you hold her, I'll write the note." Kai handed the dragon to his twin and took out a quill and a bottle of ink. He started writing, making sure that the ink didn't smudge along the way.
We have left for the forest, Kaylen is going to teach me how to hunt and show me the woods and creatures of the mountains and trees. We shall be back before the suns set, and have left you some food and water out in the kitchen. Kai
"Think that'll do?"
"Should be more than enough."
They packed a bag with all of the necessary: a bit of food, some fishing necessities, a bow and arrows. The twins put on the appropriate clothes for their day out: clothes made for physical activity.
"Do we need anything else?"
"Don't think so." answered Kai.
It was still dark outside, but the three moons provided enough light so that lanterns weren't needed. The two brothers made their way through town to the path leading to the woods without any problems. As soon as they were out of sight, Kai let Aridia climb onto his shoulder and stretch.
"She's surprisingly light." Kai noticed.
Kaylen just laughed. "You look like those pirates the Storyteller always tells us about. But instead of a parrot, a dragon. Aye aye, Cap'n Kai!"
"I... kinda like that idea." Aridia then climbed onto Kai's head, making some sort of nest out of his hair. "Now that must just look stupid...oww!"
"I'm sorry but... yes you do. Anyways." Kaylen pointed at the higher trees in the distance. "That is where we're heading, the same place as last night. Ready?"
"Alright, let's go."
They made their way through the dead leaves and tall trees, and sometime later they had made it to the lake once again. Aridia leaped off Kai's head at once and climbed up the nearest tree, then sitting on the branch.
