The tiny child crept quietly around the corner, away from her great uncle's room, where she had been previously been sleeping soundly.
She inched by her loser aunt's room, hearing some occasional bleeps, which signaled one of her friends was trying to get in contact with her. Chloe, the child, didn't even bother to be quiet, she knew that her aunt was sleeping, and sleeping well. She had made sure of that.
So, maybe a little ZzzQuil had slipped from the medicine cabinet into the milk that was going to be used for breakfast that morning. Her aunt was most likely going to fall asleep after school anyway with how little sleep she gets, so what wrong is it doing her?
The innocent little one-year-old hobbled around the corner into the small kitchen, and squirmed her way from step-stool, to chair, to counter. From here she could see most of the house.
It was a nice, modest house with a somewhat large backyard, which was excellent for playtime. The house was almost always messy and cluttered with various toys and trash, not to mention noisy. You couldn't go five minutes without hearing one of the other children yell, the dog, Winnie, bark, house guests' chattering, or her uncle's extremely loud music.
But today, everything seemed silent.
Much too silent.
Next thing Chloe knows, she hears her own name being yelled.
"Chloe! What are you doing on the counter?" It's one of the many house guests that comes to visit, this one Chloe doesn't know that well.
"C'mere, I'll get you off the counter." Or enjoy the company of very much. She immediately is picked up by what she considers a stranger, however, she has a plan. An excellent plan.
Like any child of her age would do, Chloe starts to cry. And like any sensible adult, the stranger panics, and looks around for the caretakers of the child. After seeing no one in the immediate vicinity, the stranger takes it upon themselves to calm Chloe down.
They sits down in a chair nearby, and start rocking Chloe, cooing and praying that she shuts up soon. And Chloe see her chance.
Suddenly, and without any warning, Chloe whips a pillow from off of the chair, and covers the stranger's face, effectively smothering them.
The speed, accuracy, and strength was something no one would imagine a one-year-old girl could have, which is why, in Chloe's mind, this was the perfect plan.
After the kicking and muffled yelling stopped, Chloe propped the pillow behind the stranger's head, and gently wiggled her way off of the chair. She checked the stranger one more time over, to make sure it truly look like they were sleeping, and after being satisfied with her set-up, Chloe wandered back to great uncle's room, smirking slightly.
"That will teach you not to take away my ball," she thinks evilly, then crawls back into bed and falls asleep, peacefully.
