"You know, I've been watching how the other Associates call to this division of the firm, and its all for you. Does that ever bother you?" Jim Riley, the founder of my law firm asked. It was common to find me on other floors of the firm since they always called me in to help. To me it excited my job, and made me feel important.
"No, Jim you know what I wanted to do when I came to you all as a social worker. If anything, I like it more than just being in my division." I told him as we sat across from eachother at a lunch table.
"I was just wondering if you would like to take a promotion to the President of this division, and a Junior Associate with the Criminal Division. I see the drive and determination in you that I don't see in alot of other associates in the firm." When offering me the promotion, my jaw dropped.
"Jim I-" I tried to speak but I was too overjoyed to do so. All I could do was allow my left hand to come over my forehead as a smirk broke through my lips.
A promotion at the firm, meant more money, more cases, more work, and I loved it all. Especially the respect that I would now get at the firm, would most definitely make me happy.
"I'll accept, but with one condition." I told him, knowing that he didn't think it would be that easy. "Only you would have a condition Thomas. You get a new office in your division. More pay of course, the leverage, what else do you need woman?" I laughed at the remark from the older black man.
"Xavier gets my old job." I told him, making him hesitate. "C'mon now, in the 4 years that X has been here, he's only lost cases that were already closed before they went to trial. His negotiation skills help the majority of his trials, and he's great with the kids that come through our doors. He needs a promotion." I pleaded with Jim all the way back to the office building until he stopped and turned toward me.
"Alright, but I'm going to have to move your office closer to the front of the 41st floor. Clients need to be able to see you when they walk in. Plus you should be in between both of the divisions."
"Can I just have two separate offices? I don't want to mix anything up." I spoke to him, making him nod.
"Alright keep your old office and get a junior associate office in the Criminal division. That's fine." He said as we boarded the elevator. "I'll go give the news to Xavier and Diana could just have me sign the new promotion, work contracts." I told him, having him nod before I walked off the elevators.
"Hey Brean." The secretary spoke as I walked past her for about the 6th time today. I basically speed walked to Xavier's office before seeing that he had a client in there. I pulled back and went to my office while texting him to say that I had a surprise for him.
I stamped a couple cases that were finished today and put them in their folders, along with the finance reports and basically everything else about the case that I used or made for the client. "Diana, I need you to archive these two cases after Seleste comes and gives you my financial earnings report from them." As I spoke to her, Xavier came out of his office with a female client who I could tell was eye raping him.
"Wassup Meth?" I asked him as I walked back into my office. "Wassup Mary?" He said I looked like Mary J Blige, but I highly doubt it.
"Guess what you did?" I sat down on my desk in front of Xavier. "What?" He inquired, coming toward me.
"You my friend, are now a Senior Associate, in the Child and Family Division of this here law firm." I played with his collar as I told him what happened.
"Ma, you playing right now?" He probably had a hard time believing his promotion. "I just had a meeting with the boss man. I'm promoted to President of this division, and a JA in criminal. Which you know I'll hate, but its whatever. And I said that you had to be promoted too, or I wouldn't take it." I told him.
