Draco's P.O.V
Hermione looked into his eyes with an expression of scrutiny as if trying to judge whether this was all a cruel joke or if he would run off and tell everyone about her 'family issues'. After a few seconds she seemed satisfied and stood reaching for Malfoy's hand she pulled him to his feet. As he was about to walk out the door she used her grip on his wrist to pull him back to face her.
'Listen, Malfoy, this does not make us friends. This does not mean I trust you... or anyone for that matter. Thankyou for your help, but I can take care of myself.' She said in a quavering, pretentious tone. She turned to leave but I grabbed her arm. She let out a loud cry of pain and I let go immediately.
'Oh my god I'm so sorry Hermione I didn't mea-'
'DON'T, sorry, just don't bother. What did you want?' Se seethed through clenched teeth.
"I-I, um, I just wanted to say that I hope you're, um, like... ok, I guess?'
'Yeah I'm fabulous, anyway, we best be going, we're the Heads of the school afterall.' She finished with a weak smile.
'Yeah I guess.'
Hermione's P.O.V
After fetching my trunk and riding in one of the thestral-pulled carriages up to the torch lit corridors and turrets of Hogwarts, Malfoy and I entered the great hall together. I saw him turn to me as we parted but I ignored this. I also ingnored Harry, Ginny and Ron's wild gestures beconing me towards them, instead I sat alone at the far end of the table and looked at anything but another staring face. I went with looking down at my hands which were shaking. Hermione thought back to the last time she ate and couldn't remember it.
One thing to know about Hermione was that she wasn't some crazy, annorexic luntic (A/N not saying people who are annorexic are lunatics, just that Hermione's not : ]), she simply forgot to eat! How could she be so silly?! She was about to subtly excuse herself when she heard McGonagall say, '...and now, I present you the Head Girl and Head Boy, Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy.'
She stood and smiled politely, but then quickly darted out through the doors. Having been told the password for her and Malfoy's common room, Wulfric, and that Sir Cadogen would be guarding it, as Professors Snape and Dumbledore would be in the Headmasters' office with the other previous heads of Hogwarts. So Basically, Hermione just had to find the portrait. She searched the corridors for about ten minutes before she started to get light headed. A couple of minutes later she came across the protrait on the fourth floor corridor at the far end near the window over looking the lake.
'Wulfric,' I said to Sir Cadogen who smiled and saluted.
'Thankyou.'
I walked into the common room and leant on the desk steadying my wobbly knees. I tried to conjour food or summon something from the great hall, but nothing happened. I remembered last year when Harry, Ron and myself were searching for Voldemort's horcruxes and I had yelled at Ron when he insulted my attempt at cooking and our argument about conjouring food. I smiled to myself. Even though it was an awful, terrifying time, I missed Ron and Harry and Ginny too.
I sighed and walked to a door on the right side of the common room, I opened it and came across a stunning room, simple, yet stunning. A dark wood four poster like those in the dormitories and a matching chest of draws and window seat over looking the lake. I knew it was my room because of the scarlet and gold wall paper and the tapestries on the bed.
Hermione heard the portrait open and Malfoy came in.
'Hermione? Are you alright?'
'Yes. I'm in here!' I called, my voice hoarse and croaky.
