After we got our ice cream, she drove me home.
"I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone " I sang or basically yelled out loud.
"Cara stop sing-" she said as she stared out the window in shock.
"What's wrong" I asked as I followed her gaze.
"What happened here my house, it's destroyed" I began to sob.
"I'm sorry"
"It's okay it wasn't your fault but I'm going to go see what's left of it, I'll call you later"
"Mom, Where are you?" I called out loud as I walked into our house.
"Right here sweetie" she yelled from my room.
"What happened"
"That earthquake we had earlier hit us pretty bad and we're going to have to move."
"Where?"
"My co-worker was on the phone with me when I saw what happened and I told her about it and she is willing to let us stay there until we can find a place to stay."
"Do we have to?"
"Yeah, now go pack anything you can so we can get out of here soon."
"OK mom, but just out of curiosity, where do they live?"
"Oh, I don't know I should call and ask."
"You didn't ask them?"
"No I was in shock when I came home to this. "
"Go call them mother and I'll pack."
"Okay."she said as she left the room.
Can my life get any worse I thought as I let out a sigh and started packing.
.
.
"Mom I'm done packing, how about you?"
"Same sweetie"
"Are we going there now?"
"Yeah just let me get my keys"
I looked at our house for one last time and said my goodbye to all my childhood memories, I hope my mom chooses to rebuild this.
.
Ten minutes into the car ride I realized we entered the rich neighborhood.
"Mom are you sure we're going the right way?"
"Yeah they live a few houses down from here."
"We're here" she said as she parked and then called her friend.
"Hey Linda it's me Clarissa I am at your house"
"Yeah."
"Okay."
"Thanks for letting us stay here again."
" Cara they are on their way out please bahave."
"Yes mother." I said as I got my stuff out the car. As I looked up I saw a lady walking towards us, she looked fairly young maybe her mid-30s.
"Hello my name is Linda Burke" she said once she reached us.
"Hi Linda this is my daughter Cara."
"Nice to meet you car."
"Ditto."
"Come on let's get inside so we can get to know each other."
"Ok"
We walked into her house, more like a mansion. I felt so poor compared to them.
"Sorry if it's a little messy we didn't get to tidy the place up since the earthquake." She said as we sat down on her
"So Mrs.Burke I hear that-"
"Call me Linda sweetheart."
" Okay, Linda I hear you 2ork with my mom at the hospital."
"Yes, I am a surgeon."
"Oh that's cool, is your husband also a surgeon too?"
"Yes he is."
"So Cara what school do you go to?" She asked.
"I go to George Land high school, Im a senior there." I replied.
"Oh really, my son is also a senior there."
"What a coincidence, what's his name?"
"Ashton Burke."
"Really, where is he now?" I asked in panic in case he sees me.
"Football practice he'll be home soon"
"Oh, I wonder how long it will take for him to notice more people moved into his house" I said with relief. Thank god he's not here, maybe he won't notice a random person in his house.
"Probably a long time, that son of mine is really oblivious." She says then laughs.
"Anyways we should get you two settled in, follow me and I'll show you two your rooms."
"Ok"
My mother's room was at the begining of the hallway and mine was all the way in the back and guess who's room was across mines.
Ashton.
Kill me now.
"Get settled in dinner will be ready soon."
"Thank you Linda" me and my mother shouted as she walked down stairs.
