Cemetery Waltz

The night was cool and crisp as a man, not a day over 21 walks through the abandoned cemetery. His dark blonde hair blows in the wind created by the ominous tall trees. He hears a call of a crow behind him, he doesn't flinch though, his ice blue eyes stare straight ahead. He is wearing all black with a bouquet of 12 brilliant red roses. The stems were bright green and the thorns were clipped off. The full moon shined above his head shining light onto his pale features. He smiles, his white teeth sparkling.

The man then stops, looking down at a grave that was tilted to the side and was covered in dirt. He tilted his head in wonder as he kneeled down to wipe away the packed in dirt. He then found the engraving, Carla Kona. His eyes squinted as his mind started to wander, where had he heard that name before? He did not think much of it as he placed a single red rose onto the edge of the grave.

He then stood, his long legs making him 6 foot. He then continued walking, his back to the grave. Behind his back, the grave's soil began to move slightly. Then, a white hand started to reach out of the ground, then another, soon, the entire body was out of the ground. The body though, was not a ghost, but a skeleton. As its head points down, it's white flowing dress layed on her bony shoulders.

As this event was taking place, the man had found another grave not to far from Carla's that was also covered in dirt. He cleaned this one off as well, Mason Keel. He then remembered, he had also heard this name before as well, but his mind would not reveal this secret behind the names. He placed another rose onto it. He then stood like before, walking on.

As he did so, the same thing began to happen, but instead of their being a dress, this skeleton was wearing a suit that was worn from the years of burial. The girl, Carla then looked up, her hand to her chest. She then stood on her boney legs, walking toward her, her other hand stretched out from her body, as she danced over toward the male, Mason.

Mason's hand went to his chest as well, as if their hearts were still inside, and they were calling for each other. He kneeled down, his hand raised; waiting for Carla's to be placed into it. And soon, it was. As he took ahold of her slender hand, he stood, his other hand going to her waist, her hand on his chest. They then started to dance in a beautiful circle.

The man with the roses kept on with his work, cleaning off graves, placing roses, and walking on, unknowing of what was going on behind him. The cemetery coming to life once again like its residents. With every rose that was placed, a skeleton was raised, soon, there were 10 skeletons waltzing together in complete silence. Their ears were the only ones that could hear the sweet music pouring from the large grave from up top. And that grave, was about to be visited.

The man walked up the steep hill, only two roses left in his arm, but he treated them as he treated the others, like he would never run out of them. He then found the large grave; two large family plots were placed there. He then noticed that the names were covered. Again, he did the honorable thing and cleaned them off. He then revealed that the two names that were engraved were both Keel and Kona. The two last names of the first two graves that he had visited. He then wondered why the two were not welcome into this plot, why they were somewhere else. He didn't stay for too long after that, he turned to leave.

Before he could even take a step, he finally seen what his roses had done, bringing back the dead. He took a step back as he watches the skeletons dance with one another as they climbed the hill he was perched upon. He tensed up as he took a step back into the wall behind him, the Keel family plot. He then felt the door move from behind him. He took a step forward as his head turned back and seen white eyes staring out of the door. He let out a small scream as he started to run down the hill, his feet carrying his body through the cool air.

He reached the edge of the cemetery and looked back to see them, the cemetery waltz he thought. It was quite beautiful, their bones perfect white, and they looked happy, even though they were not able to show emotions on their faces.  He then turned from the cemetery, to leave it and its secrets behind.

As he walks down the darkened road, he could feel his heart reach for the grave yard as if he was being pulled back. He turns a bit, as if someone was pulling at his arm. He looked down and seen a small indent in his sleeve, his heart skips a beat as it starts pulling him back. His eyes widen a bit, and he tries to fight away from this invisible being but to no avail. He looks down the street, hopping that there would be someone, anyone that could help him. No one was there though. His heart was hammering inside of his chest as he looked down at the invisible figure.

Without realizing where he was being taken, he looked up to find the entrance of the graveyard. He looked down again and found himself being pulled no longer by an invisible being, but by a skeleton. Its white bony fingers stained with the burgundy blood that oozed from his arm. Terror fills his eyes as he watches the blood from his arm start to go up the skeletons. Without any warning, it started pulling him faster and deeper into the cemetery. Once they were at the top of the hill, they sit him in front of the two family plots. Soon, the skeletons were in partners again, hand in hand, hand on waist, they waltzed around him. His head turns in all directions, trying to take in what was going on, his fingers in the cool grass.

A song started playing Cemetery Waltz. His mind started to become calmer with the song as vines started to wrap around his wrists and ankles. He could feel a pull inside of his chest, like it was calling to the ground. He hung his head, his hair out of place and covering his face. His eyes closed as his body started swaying, his heart starting to match the slowness of the song. His eyes opened again, trying not to black out, he notices then that the red roses he brought were standing up in the ground, as if they were a part of it. He tilts his head a bit, they seemed to be shimmering. He blinks a few times, looking up to the skeletons, but they weren't skeletons any longer. He sees muscle and flesh start to form onto the bones. He closes his eyes; soon, he is waist deep in the ground as the ground pulls him in. He didn't even notice before, but now he did. He was too weak to even move, paralyzed in his state. He was to weak to even feel the fear that should come from all of this, but nothing but numb calmness filled his soul.

He was shoulder deep when he opened his eyes for the final time, there were no longer skeletons, or even half skeletons, they were all fully human. The women in beautiful dresses, their hair done up so nice. The men's hair was slicked back or in nice pony tails as they look down into the woman's face. They were alive. The ground was up to his neck, then his chin, it finally started to engulf his face. Everything then goes black in his eyes as his breaths come to a stop, his heart failing him. His body going cold. The 12 humans around him bow to the two family plots as a blue figure forms out of the ground. Cheers are heard all around them, but none coming from the 12. Nay, they stay silent. When the blue figure is fully out of the ground, all eyes land on him, it was the man. They watch him curiously, then to the family plots behind him.

The doors to each side of him begin to open; a couple comes out of each of them. They look over the man that is standing before them. The couples were not glowing blue like the man. They portrayed the color of purple. They exchange glances with each other then nods. They turn to where they escaped from. The Keel family holds out their hands. Soon, a young woman appears out from the plot. Her long hair blows in the wind as she looks at the man. He then turns around to see her. Their faces light with recognition. The girl ran toward him, wrapping her arms around his neck, jumping into his arms. He holds her, spinning her in a circle. He then places her onto the ground. He then turns to the other humans but they are gone. He raises one of his eyebrows until he sees them exiting the gate. He frowns a bit, wishing he could join them like he could only minutes ago.

The girl then places her hands onto the sides of his face, "We'll get our chance." She whispers, her voice soft and echoic.

He then nods, "Yes May." He whispers to her.

The sun begins to rise as the three couples return to the plots, the man going into Keel's. He was now part of the family, which made him part of the cemetery.
