Chapter 10

~A Month Later~

Denmark had adopted a little girl and named her Lukah. He tried his best to be happy like Norway had told him, but sometimes found it hard to stay strong.

Norway decided to linger for a while. Just so he could make sure Denmark was happy.

The war had finally ended, but there was still famine and disease that crippled the nations.

The nations that were left called a world meeting to discuss plans for what to do now that the war had ended.

Denmark volunteered to stay and watch Amaranth and Lukah.

"Are you sure you don't want to come, Den?" Finland asked, always eager to watch the kids instead of going to a meeting.

"I'm sure."

"Alright."

After Finland left, Denmark settled down on the couch to watch the kids.

Lukah was sitting on the floor playing with those large Lego things.

"I want to be the princess," Amaranth whined.

"But I wanna be the princess."

Denmark interrupted "You can both be princesses."

Both of the girls just looked at him "We can?"

"Yep and I'll be the knight."

"OK!"

"Hana can be the dragon," Amaranth said.

"Okay."

"Yay!"

"And Norway can be the king," Lukah said excitedly.

"Yes!"

"Norway?" Denmark asked, confused.

"Ya. He plays with me sometimes" Lukah said.

"Is he here right now?"

"He is sitting next to you."

"Norge?"

"Yes?" Norway said quietly.

Denmark couldn't hear him, of course.

"He said yes" Lukah repeated.

Denmark reached for Norway's hand blindly and Norway took the hand in his own.

"Nor..."

"I'm right here, Den."

"I miss you, Lukas. Everyday."

"I miss you too, Mathias."

"Who's Mathias?" Lukah asked.

A tear rolled down Denmark's cheek.

"That's Denmark's human name," Norway explained to Lukah.

"I'm trying to be strong, Norge. Like you said. Happy. But it's just a façade. All I want is to be with you."

"I know you do."

Denmark stood up "Let's play castle, girls."

"Yay!" they both cheered.

~After the Meeting~

Amaranth ran up to her parents excitedly "Daddy! Mommy! We played castle! And Lukah and I were princesses! And Hana was the dragon! And Denmark was the knight who saved us!"

Finland bent down "Did you have fun?"

"Don't forget about Norway!" Lukah added.

"Oh and Norway was the king," Amaranth said.
