Chapter 8

After that very, very strange moment, the family paid for their meal and left there, faster then you can spell Mississippi.

“Strange.” Xander said setting down. “I don’t think they will give us any more problems.”

“Yeah..” I replied looking over to Caleb who was still sleeping in this high chair. What would I do without him...and Xander. You know, I really do want to be with Xander. I mean, he has changed. I just hope that he feels the same way about me. Does he? He did stand up for Caleb and he did say that it was HIS son. Maybe he does. I hope so. We could be a family. Get married on a tall hill top. No at the beach! We will stand in a few inches of water and our, well his, family will be sitting on white sets in the water. The color would be blue and silver. We will have ham, pineapple...

“Ava, Ava? Are to even listening to me.” JOlting out of my own little world, I came face to face with Xander.

“I’m sorry. What?” I said shaking my head, trying to forget what I just thought. What is wrong with me?

“Are you okay?” He said looking genuinely concerned.

“Yeah. Sorry. What were you saying before?”

“I asked, what are you having to eat.”

“Oh, I think I will get the scrambled eggs and fresh fruit. What about you?”

“I think I’ll get the stank of the famous pancakes and a side of eggs.”

“Sounds good.”

“OKay, waiter?” He said as he searched for a free waiter.

Just as soon as he said that, a very attractive waiter, not as good of Xander of course, came to take our order.

“Hello,” He smooth silk voice filled the air. “My name is John, I will be taking your order this morning. What can I get the pretty lady.” He said with a wink.

Blushing under his gaze, I heard a chair scarp across the floor. Looking to my left, I saw that Xander moved his chair right next to mine, his arm was wrapped around the back of my chair.

“She will have the eggs and fruit with a glass of water. While, I will have the pancakes and a side of eggs. I will also take a cup of coffee.” Xander said with a gruff tone. “Also, watch where your eyes fall on MY girl.”

Nodding his head, the waiter walked away wide-eyed from fear.

“Your girl?” I squeaked after a few minutes of dead silence.

“Yes, nobody can take away what was once mine.” He said looking me in the eyes.

Sitting on my bed, smiling like a buffoon, thinking about what Xander said before we left the restaurant, I still couldn't get that family out of my mind,. Who were they? They look of familiar. The boy, the one who stood up to his mother, looked like someone I knew long ago.  Hmm, oh well, it’s no use now. It really doesn’t matter who they were, it’s done and over.

After a new minutes of silence, the phone started going off. Rolling over the newly, fresh sheet, to answer the phone. I was greeted with a strange voice.

“Hello?” I asked wearily.

“Hello, I don’t think you will remember me by the sound of my voice. My name is Luke, I was at the restaurant this morning. My mother was the one who made that huge seen about that little boy making too much noise. I’m again sorry for that.

Haha, I bet you're wondering why I am calling, well I just couldn’t get you out of my mind. Not in a weird, stalker way. It’s just you look so darn familiar. What is your name. I have to know your name.”

Still shocked by this man calling me, I didn’t and couldn't make a sound.

“Hello?”

“Hmm..sorry. Ava. Ava Moore.” I squeaked back.

“Ava..Ava. Ava Moore.” He kept repeating over and over. “ We need to meet again. Meet me at the diner tomorrow at noon. We need to talk and come alone.”

The phone went dead silent after that sentence.

“No, I don’t want you to go.” Xander said pacing around that room as I got ready.

“I have to. I want to find out who he is.” I said as I just finished my makeup.

“Hmp.”

“I’ll be fine. It’s only for an hour. If I’m not back at the house in an hour you can come and get me. Okay.”

“Okay. But ONLY for an hour.”

“Deal.”

Sitting in a red covered booth, my thoughts were getting the best of me. What if he some kind of psychopath that is going to kill me? What if he turns out to be a she. What. Wait?

“Excuse me, Miss.” A voice spoke.

Looking up, I saw the boy, no man, that called me yesterday.

“Hello.”

“Hi, my name is Luke. I called you yesterday.”

“Yes, please set down.”

“Okay, so you are problem wondering why I called you here.”

“Yes.”

“Well, I guess I will start from the beginning. It all started when I lost my baby sister. My mother left her at the park because she couldn’t afforded to pay for the food. we were all mad at her for this, no one in the family really forgave her. After a few years, my mother finally realized her decision was stupid. For months we searched for her, everyone in the family gave up hope but me. I knew that she was still out here. I knew that she was alive. I knew that she was you. You are my sister. I knew it the first time I saw you. Everyone thought I was crazy but no! I knew it. I mean look! We look alike.”

Shocked and stunned I look at Luke with wide eyes. We did look alike. Were we really brother and sister or was it just a fluke.

“I know it sounds crazy. I just hope that you will believe me. I want to make up the time I lost with you. Just give me a month to show you that I am who I say I am.”

“I, ah, hmm. Okay.” I said as I rubbed my thumb and forgive against my forehead. All this new information was getting to me.

“Good. You won’t regret it.”
