Chapter 8

Hey guys! This is one of my favorite stores to write. I'm finding hard to keep up with what happened in my head already and where I am in the actual story. That's what I get for thinking so far ahead already. Well, today we'll start with Opal.

I pulled my little sister into a one-armed hug. "Opal, will we be shattered for going against the Authority? I don't want to be shattered." Flourite said softly. "We won't get shattered. We're princesses. They have to listen to us. Well, we're part of one of the six royal branches of the family, if I remember right. We're just descended from Queen Quartz, the only girl in her family of five other brothers. She was also the youngest. So, as you can imagine, or branch of the family was looked down upon because of that. That, and we marry for love, not wealth or power like the other five branches. We could only marry for love." I explained. Flourite tilted her head, confused. "What do you mean, we can only marry for love?" Aqua jumped in. "We'll, Flourite, when Queen Quartz was still a princess with no kingdom to rule, she found a corrupted Gem in the forest near her home. When Queen Quartz ordered the Gem off her lands, the Gem cursed her and the rest of her line to be about to only fuse with, and love, one Gem. So, your line has to be careful who they fuse with, because once they fuse with a Gem, that Gem is who you must marry, whether you love them or not." Flourite looked scared. "Is that why Opal and I can't fuse?" Flourite asked. I nodded. "Yes, Birdy. That is the reason we are not able to fuse with any Gems." "Don't worry, Birdy. The curse only goes into normal Gems. Not Corrupted ones. The evil Gem who cursed Queen Quartz didn't think of that. You can't marry any evil Gems." Flourite looked relieved. "Thanks. Now, are we marching on the Capitol or what? We have some leaders to overthrow. Remember?" Flourite giggled and started running. I looked at Aqua. "Thanks for helping me explain. Although, we left out what happens to us if a Gem proclaims their love for us, and we don't return those feelings. And we left out what the fate of Queen Quartz was." "Hush, Opal. Those are tasked fur another time. We'd only scare her if we told her those stories now." "Yes, you're quite right, Aqua." I was still uneasy about letting my silence on those matters. "Look, we just need to keep Flourite happy until you are officially the ruler of Homeworld. The other five branches of the royal family died of long ago, almost right after Rose left for Earth. You're going to stand unopposed as Queen Opal, ruler of Homeworld. Now, we'd better catch up, or Flourite will get too far ahead of us. Let's continue." I followed Aqua without a word.
