In the back of his head, Dan knew that he'd been waiting for an opportunity like this his whole life. Every year leading up until now he had had a pretty boring, normal life apart from the parts he'd shared with Phil.
As strange as it may sound coming from someone as extreme as Dan, he couldn't imagine leaving home. Not unless it was for Phil. His eyes burnt, but no more tears came, surprisingly. "Okay." He said, standing back up. His voice cracked.
"Thank you." Phil said breathlessly. This trip, for him, was the complete opposite as it was for Dan. He views this opportunity as a trip to spend quietly with the one person he really cared for.
Despite his injuries, Phil sat up, wincing and managed to stand completely straight, (almost) at Dans height. "Let's go."
Dan swallowed. "What, you mean... Right now?"
The other man giggled, still feeling confident in his ridicules plan. "Yes."
Dan took a deep breath in then out, shaking his head slightly. He gazed at Phil, reminding himself why he was doing this. "Alright. Get in the car, I'll get water and... And uh- food. Maybe a pillow?" He questioned.
Phil just nodded, smiling to himself at Dan falling apart so easily. He leant up to kiss him once more, before telling him to be quick and grabbing the car keys, making his way down to the carpark.
A few minutes later, Phil heard -yes, heard- Dan dragging a duffel bad across the loose gravel of the floor. Phil looked back to see him covered in bags, he was carrying at least 5. 'Oh my god' Phil mumbled to himself, but he couldn't help smiling.
He watched Dan for a couple seconds, not bothering to get out and help the poor guy. (It was much more entertaining to watch) When suddenly his phone in his pocket vibrated. He slipped it out and swiped on the message without a second thought.
Tim 💕
Phil, I'm sorry. It won't happen again. He clenched his teeth down, putting his phone in sleep mode without replying. Another one came through.
Tim 💕
I know you're reading these. Where are you? This time, still with shaking hands, Phil shut his phone down completely, not wanting to risk the temptation of replying.
Dan finally made it to the car, a panting, sweating mess which only made Phils smile grew wider, much to Dans disappointment. He slid into the drivers seat, returning Phils smile as he began to start up the car. "Ready?"
"Have been for years."
With that, Dan stepped on the accelerator an bean driving down the dark roads of England, watching oblivious people walk by. He glanced across at Phil occasionally, watching him fall into a peaceful sleep. Dan wondered how long it had been since he'd been able to do that.
Lights and faces streamed by the window, and eventually died down after a while of driving. They'd made their way to a small neighbourhood, only a few people scattered here and there. Phil yawned, stretching his arms over his head. He looked around.
The scenery was indeed different from what it was hen he'd fallen asleep. Tall, old trees replaced ancient buildings and small houses with large gardens sped past the window. The air was fresher, too. He could finally breathe. "How long have you been driving?" He asked Dan.
"Three hours." Dan shrugged, noticing the time on the car clock. "We should stop, I hate driving at night." It was true, especially on county roads.
Phil nodded and kept his eyes out for a sign advertising any accommodation. Despite his doubts, he caught a glance of one up ahead and told Dan to pull into the driveway.
From what they could see of the building, it wasn't what they'd expected. Instead of the gigantic hotels like they had back home, it was a small brick house with vines growing up the sides. A barking dog came running as soon as Dan stepped out of the car.
He ignored it, but Phil bent down, scratching and rubbing the animal with a huge grin on his face.
Dan stepped up to the house, using the knocker on the door when he discovered there was no doorbell. How old was this place, anyway? He heard fumbling and quick steps towards the door before it was opened, and he was standing face-to-face with a smiling woman, late fifties in age. "Hello, I'm Kath." She said, sticking out her hand.
Dan took it, returning her smile politely. "I'm Dan." He replied. "This is Phil, and we saw your advertisement."
After a quick talk about fees and such, the men were lead into their room. Dan didn't need to request a double bed, Kath had just assumed.
Once Kath had left the boys to their room, Dan fell backwards onto the bed, somehow tired from driving. Phil lay next to him, a hand tracing circles on his chest. "Thank you." He said.
"For what?" Dan asked, not thinking about Phil's possible meaning. He was too tired for that, anyway.
Phil swallowed. "For coming with me. I've wanted to escape for a while, I guess. Just never had the guts too."
"Ah." Dan nodded gently, pulling Phil closer to him. They looked directly at each-other, admiring the colours and features of the others shadowed face. "It's my pleasure." Dan breathed sincerely.
Phil bit his lip, unsure weather he was ready to initiate something more with Dan. But, his wants took over his logical mind and he ever so slightly pulled his head forward, brushing his lips against Dans.
Of course, Dan couldn't deal with Phil's attitude. With him it was either all or nothing. He leant further, kissing Phil and encouraging him to kiss back.
Phil noticed that, compared to Tim, Dans lips were warm. They were caring instead of harsh and rushed like he was used to.
They were familiar, and Phil realised that it wasn't romance or sex he'd been craving all these years past, it was Dan.
