Emerson's POV
"Lime Green." I answer, putting another grape in my mouth.
"What's your favorite season?" I ask, looking at Ryder who's sitting across from me in a large chair.
"Spring." Ryder says.
We've been asking each other silly little questions like this for the past half hour.
Although the questions are small and don't have much weight to them, we at least get to learn a little more about each other. The small stuff.
"What's yours?" Ryder asks me.
"Fall."
"What's your favorite movie?" I ask, and watch him think about it for a second.
"Whiplash." Ryder says.
"How come?" I question, curious by his choice.
"Although the guy's a real jerk, I don't know. The story kind of taught me that even faced with the worst and hardest things, you don't have to give up."
"What's yours?" He asks, taking a grape from the bowl.
"Titanic." I say making him smile. "Of course you'd say that." Ryder comments.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask laughing.
"It a romantic movie, that make most girls cry." He says shrugging, making my laughter grow.
"I like it because of the things he says. And the way he's able to live in the moment, not have too many worries." I say.
"I've felt lost a lot. And some of the quotes just got me through my rough patches." I admit, at this Ryder just nods. Probably not too sure of what to say to that.
"There was a small period where Nick and I not really broke up, but took a break I guess. And those two weeks, I was just so down and I watched that movie I don't know how many times. His words just helped me." I say shrugging.
"Margo and I, we would always watch the notebook once a month. You've seen that movie right?" Ryder asks, shifting in his chair.
I laugh, and send him a look. "Ryder, I think that almost everyone has seen that movie." I tell him and watch him roll his eyes at me.
"Anyway. Margo loved that movie, and just also what it stood for ya know. And so the first week of each month we'd have a date night and watch it." Ryder tells me.
"She said that the love that the characters shared was so strong that almost nothing could destroy that. Even when they were separated they still loved each other. Margo had said that our love was that strong" Ryder adds, and then a silence fills the room.
"And I believed that. I truly did." He says, his face turning somber.
"It's crazy how gullible and naïve you can be when your in love." I say looking down at my hands, that are placed in my lap.
"Sometimes I think that's the point. Love is supposed to be so consuming and so magical, that it makes everything else seem like nothing. Makes anything bad seem better." Ryder says.
As he talks to me though, he doesn't look at me. He just stares at a picture of him and Margo, hanging on the wall in front of him.
"You miss her?" I ask, and that makes his head turn to look at me.
"Everyday." Ryder says, and his words are drenched in sorrow.
"But we all have to move on, sooner or later." He adds.
"I guess we can't help who we fall in love with." I say, and my eyes haven't left the gaze of Ryder's.
"We love who we love. Sucks."
