Chapter 21; The Part Where We Sell Our Souls To The Devil

Carlisle's POV
I keep Elaine forcefully close behind me.
She keeps trying to fight me to stand in front but I just tighten the grip on her wrist.
I know that it must be hurting her by now and I don't want to break it but she just won't stop trying to be the hero, I'm not going to let her get herself killed.
"Why Carlisle, what happened to Esme?"
Aro asks,
"We weren't true mates."
I answer cooly.
"My hear belongs to someone else."
I say looking down at a smiling Elaine.
If I could I would sweep her up and never come back.
"This is wonderful!"
Aro squeals, and
Elaine rolls her eyes.
"Yes it is, it would even be more wonderful is you would, I don't know, not kill us."
She says sarcastically.
Aro chuckles.
"I always did love that attitude of your Elaine, it's one of your best qualities, well that and your power."
He says.
He looks over to Edward and Bella,
"Anywho, shall we get on with this?"
Elaine stays glued to her spot on the floor.
Watching Aro with such intensity that it looks like she could burn a hole through his skull with her eyes.
"So Bella is alive!"
Aro says in a giddy voice,
"Isn't that great?"
He looks back at the guard.
"I love a happy ending, don't you?"
Marcus rolls his eyes from his throne.
"They are so rare."
Aro finishes with looking at Elaine and I.
"I hear that she is immune to your abilities, I hope you wouldn't mind if I tried."
He asks holding out his hand.
Bella looks hesitant but holds her hand out.
Aro grabs it and tries his power.
We wait.
"Extraordinary, I hear nothing."
He laughs,
"I wonder, is she immune to all of our powers? Jane?"
He looks over to Jane.
I can feel Elaine pulling harder. I turn to have her so that I can get a better hold and so that she doesn't see what is about to unfold.
"No!"
Edward screams,
"Pain,"
Jane mutters.
I expect to hear Bella scream but instead I hear Edward struggling, but not for long.
Elaine is staring at him intensely.
The pain seems to stop and Jane looks confused.
"What-"
Then she looks over to Elaine and I.
She starts to lunge, I hiss.
Aro finally steps in,
"Remarkable, I almost forgot about your shield child, seems you've been working on it."
Elaine blushes a little.
"What is this? How can she blush?"
Aro almost looks angry,
"Come to me, dear Elaine."
Elaine starts to walk out from behind me, but I grab her wrist again.
"Aro, let me explain."
I say in a tense voice. No way I'm letting Elaine anywhere near him.
Aro smirks,
"Don't be alarmed dear Carlisle, I just want to see what happened."
"I'll be okay." Elaine whispers.
I reluctantly let go of her wrist.
She walks slowly to Aro.
He smiles at her and takes her hand.
She takes a sharp breath.
Aro looks out into space, reading everything Elaine has ever thought.
"My, my, my. Elaine, look at the mess you have gotten yourself into."
Aro whispers, in a somewhat cheerful voice.

Elaine's POV
I never cared much for Aro's games.
As he stares out into space and then talks about the trouble I've gotten myself into, I can't help but roll my eyes.
"Well Aro, it's better than staying here, and rotting like the rest of you."
I whisper.
I see Carlisle tense up from the corner of my eyes.
Aro gives me an evil smile.
"The last time someone talked to me like that, I ripped their head off."
A corner of my mouth lifts up,
"You wouldn't do that to me."
I whisper smugly.
"Are you so sure of yourself?"
He asks.
"Yes, and for one reason and one reason only."
He smirks evilly,
"What is that,my dear one?"
I look away for a second,
"You want me on your side. You need my power. You need me just in case."
He laughs loudly,
"You've always been a smart one, it is so disappointing that you ended up where you did."
He says in a sad voice.
"Sorry to disappoint."
I blurt out.
Aro's laughter fills the room.
This conversation is going no where.
I look to Marcus who is sitting on the throne, he has a bored expression on his face.
Him and I would get along.
"Well, I guess we should check up and see what your progress is after a while. We will be visiting you soon,"
He says.
I nod. Then back up slowly back to Carlisle.
I grab onto his forearm, and he pushed me back behind him.
"Now, what to do about the girl."
Aro's other brother and fellow ruler who I never truly cares enough about to learn his name broke the silence.
"Yes what are we going to do."
"She knows to much. She's live bait."
The man adds.
I roll my eyes yet again. Bella is nothing of the sort.
"Can I say somethin-"
"Felix."
Aro says, interrupting me.
I narrow my eyes. I never liked when people tried to ignore me.
Felix walks to Bella, and turns her around so she's facing opposite from him. He starts to get ready to use his power, when Edward  launches at him. They fight back and fourth for a minute.
Bella looks really freaked out, but the rest of us are just watching in complete shock.
Finally, Felix gets Edward down.
I can't help but pull against Carlisle hold when Edward is kneeled down in front of Aro.
Carlisle tightens his grip again.
"Wait! Stop!"Bella screams,
I turn to look at her.
She's crying, holding her hands in her hair tightly.
We all turn back to Aro.
"Kill me! Kill me! Not him!"
Bella screams.
She's being awfully brave.
"You would die for one of us, a soulless creature?"
Aro asks, looking astonished.
I smirk.
He doesn't know anything about Edwards soul, I think. And as if she is reading my mind, Bella says,
"You don't know anything about his soul."
Aro smiles then nods, saying something in Italian so low that even I don't catch it.
"Well, it is a shame."
Aro says as he walks up to Bella. Aro's goons are holding all of us back at this point.
"If only you intended to make her immortal."
He looks to Edward. Then, he turns to Bella and gets ready to dig in.
I close my eyes tightly, but Alice screams before something bad happens.
"Wait! Bella will be one of us! I've seen it, Elaine will change her, herself."
She says looking over to me.
I raise an eyebrow. Edward gives me a nasty look, and Carlisle growls at him.
"Easy boys."
Aro laughs halfheartedly. Then, he motions for Alice to come to him.
She's let go by the men holding her back, and takes Aro's hands.
Aro must like what he sees, because he smiles all the way through the vision.
Then he turns to Bella,
"Amazing."
Then to me,
"What a gem."
I give him, and then Alice a confused look.
"Thank you, Alice for that. It's so amazing to see what you have seen before it had happened."
All the people holding us back let go of us.
"We shall see that it happens."
We all come together,and put Bella in the middle of us all so if something happens we can protect her.
"Be gone now, dear friends. We shall see you soon."
Edward is already halfway to the door.
Carlisle grabs my hand,and we follow quickly behind.
"And don't think we won't come to check that you keep you side of this promise,"
I hear one of the brothers sneer.
I roll my eyes.
We walk out the doors, and a secretary meets is in the lobby room.
"You'll have to stay here to sundown."
Edward and Carlisle nod,
"Of course."
Carlisle says.
We're lead to a room that has two couches in it.
I sigh in relief,  glad that we were finally out of that room.
Still I knew that the Volturi wasn't don't with us, and we just sold out souls to the devil.
