The carton was full. Belle pressed all the things inside with the palms of her hands so that she could close the carton properly.
"You brought the keys, Rory?" Belle asked the sad looking boy standing next to her, she hid her smile glancing shortly at him.
"Yeah." Rory jingled the keys in his hand.
To separate the twin brothers effectively, Belle got one of them to be with her all day long to help her as she worked around in the house. So far, it worked. The sadness in Rory's face said that. And about that sadness, Belle made a note to do something about that. She didn't like those brother fighting all the time, but that didn't mean she liked them with long faces.
"Well," Belle huffed swiping her hands down her skirt to wipe away the dust. "Let's go then and place this junks to the store room."
As she bend down to pick up one of the carton, Rory stopped her and reached out for the carton. "Belle, I would do that, it's too heavy."
Belle slapped his hands away. "I'm perfectly capable of carrying it, Rory. It's not that heavy." She protested.
Rory tried a few more times but Belle was determined.
As she climbed up the stairs peeking up the carton to see where she was going with great difficulty, she thought with amusement how she had gotten so stronger in the past few days. All the unused, worn out machines and utensils in the in the kitchen that Jimmy just used to shove inside a closet were supposed to be weigh a lot when gathered up in a cartoon, but surprisingly it seemed so light when she picked the cartoon up. Must be the medicines Simon had been feeding her since she first was rescued from the forest.
Rory was right on her tow with another huge carton on his shoulder. The boy was muttering something incoherent under his breath. Belle found it really funny but chose to not comment on it and piss off the poor guy.
"Rory," She asked not stopping as they reached the corridor upstairs. "Do you know when Jacob's going to return?"
"Near midnight, I guess." Rory answered with uncertainty in his voice.
"I don't know what they do running around in the forest protecting us from God knows who." Belle was as if speaking to herself about her confusions and queries. "I mean, they don't even have weapons when they leave. Don't they even need weapons when some wild animal or bad people, like loose criminals or things like that stumble across their way!"
"Uh..." Rory bit his tongue. "They're just fond of hand to hand battle, I guess." He refrained himself from saying - paws in stead of hands.
It was really getting tricky, hiding this huge elephant of a secret from Belle.
Belle snorted at that. "What if they get hurt like this someday? They're so full of themselves. They should at least carry shot guns."
"I agree." Rory said meekly.
Their conversation came to an end when they reached the storeroom finally. Putting the carton down on the floor, Belle moved away for Rory to unlock the door. Rory didn't even bother to put the carton on his shoulder down, he just fished out the keys from his pocket and put it inside the keyhole.
The room smelled of dust, and stiff air from staying closed most of the time. Belle looked around and found out there was just one window, that too was half hidden behind a mountain of things which nearly reached the ceiling.
Rory followed her eyes and sighed. "I guess, I need to move all that now."
Belle smiled at him, he would make a cute pouting little brother to a woman. "No, Rory. I think I will manage."
