I watch Daisy leave once again. I roll my eyes and stomp into the house, seeing Dan and Breydon on the sofa watching the telly. Breydon usually says hello to me, but makes no eye contact today. I know that he dislikes when I yell, but he's usually quick to forgive, even if it takes a few hours. Just as his mother always had been. He reminds me so much of her, as much as I wish he didn't. I sit next to Breydon but don't try to start small talk, knowing that he'll talk when he's ready. Nearly fifteen minutes pass, then Dan leaves the family room.
"It's been nearly fifteen minutes, Brey," He turns to me, and I see a much younger version of myself. "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing." He pouts, crossing his arms. I glare at him, and he mirrors my look.
"Fine." I stare ahead at the telly. He does, too. I decide to leave him be, since I know he won't tell me anytime soon. I rise from the sofa, then head to the kitchen, where I know I'll surely find Dan.
"Dan?" I call, just to find him with a bag of Maltesers and a startled face.
"Phil?" Dan calls when he's calmed down a bit. "What's wrong, mate?"
"Way too much, Dan." I sigh.
"You're jealous, aren't you?" Dan begins. "You see that she's with somebody new, and you are jealous." I see he is completely serious.
"Maybe a little bit."
"Well, Phil, I guess that's what happens when you treat somebody like that for so long. Eventually they leave. Lucky for you, though, she still allows you to be a part of Breydon's life." He's never been pleased with how I treated Daisy. Truth be told, I didn't like the way I'd treated her, either. I realize that he is right, though. He pops another Malteser into his mouth, and I sneak back into the family room to watch the telly with Breydon. I look right to where he was sitting, but he isn't there.
"Dan? DAN?!" I call frantically.
"What, Phil?!"
"I... I lost Breydon!" I'm really scared now. I begin to search the living room and Dan whips out his phone.
"I'll call Daisy!" He calls out as he dials her number. I search the whole family room, then the door flies open.
"Where is he?!" She cries as she runs in, hand-in-hand with Niall. I turn to face her, disrupting me from heading to the office.
"Does it look like I know?!" I shout back. Suddenly, behind me, I hear a small voice- much like my own as a child- whimpering.
"Why does everyone have to yell?" Breydon has tears streaking down his face. Daisy and I both run to comfort him, but he pushes me away, and looks to Niall. Niall rushes over to Breydon.
"Breydon, where were you, love?" Daisy speaks to him in a gentle voice to calm him, calling him 'love' as she always does when he's scared.
"My room. I was playing with my toys." I notice now that he's been holding a stuffed bear.
"You have to remember to tell daddy, love. You scared him and Dan an awful lot." She and Niall hug Breydon close, and I stand back. Why would he shove me away like that?
"Okay." He sighs, then looks up to me. "Sorry, daddy." He apologizes, but he makes no eye contact, and he won't come anywhere near me. I wish I understood why, but I probably never will. "Mommy, can I come home, now?" He pleads. Daisy looks to me, seeing the hurt look in my eyes.
"No, I think you should stay with daddy for a bit. He waits so long to see you." With that, they give goodbye kisses, and Daisy and Niall leave. Breydon and I sit on the sofa.
"Brey, what's wrong?" I ask. He looks at me, knowing exactly what I mean, but he just crosses his arms once again and looks away from me. I sigh, looking back to the telly. Why won't he just talk to me? Dan walks back into the family room with a brand new, un-opened bag of Maltesers, and offers some to Breydon. Breydon accepts, and they manage to finish the small bag of Maltesers in no time. Great. I think. He even likes Dan better than me. I sit far away from them. Far away with just me, myself, and I. Thinking back to when Daisy and I were together and somewhat happy, and when Breydon meant it when he called me daddy.
