Kya

Dark thunder booms through the frigid night as I sprint through the downpour to my house. My boots smack against the pavement as my foot slips, making me stumble into a puddle.

"Well shit," I mutter, hearing the squelch of my sock in my boot as I continue to run along the path to my house.

Sad piano music flutters down the street as I near the house. I stumble on the rotting wooden boards on my way to the front door. There, I fumble with my keys in the dark and wet before I manage to unlock the door and pull it open.

The minor key of my brother's music haunts me like a shadow as I sprint up the carpeted stairs to the second floor. I force open the wooden door to the attic there, and clamber up the steep wooden steps, into the attic.

The attic has an old TV, a wooden chair, and an old couch in the main room before I turn right to my room. There's an old, decrepit sink to my left. To my right, there's an old wooden desk and a computer. Finally, in front of me, there is a mattress on the floor against the wall and in the corner, a window by where my head would lay, a bookshelf against the other corner, and my guitar lying on my bed.

Thunder roars when I ease my backpack off of my shoulder and set my violin down against the bookshelf. I slip off my boots, take off my jean jacket, and pull off my red bandana that I wear like a headband.

Closing the door, I change into a nightgown, laying down on my bed and beginning to doodle around on my guitar. What a day.

This house technically isn't mine. My parents are gone. I live with my friend, his brother, my brother, and their parents. My dogs sleep under the desk in rainstorms like this. I guess this is what I get for living in Seattle. They're golden cocker retrievers; they're brother and sister. Their names are Sadie and Winston.

My mind droops into the dark lullaby of sleep.

I snap awake, looking up to see that my dogs are now in their usual spot, the foot of my bed. I can tell without turning around to my window that it's still dark outside, but it is winter. Usually it's still dark outside when school starts.

Luckily for me, it's the weekend.

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

"Gah, how many times do my dreams end like this!" I groaned, sitting up to look at my ringing phone. 6:35, snoozed 4 times. "Crap! No no no! I was suppose to be up by 15!"

I pulled over my blue dress and added the Native American tribal necklace, praying for a second as I gripped it. Then I gathered my peach-dyed hair and put it into a messy bun. Slipping on my dangling moon earrings, I rush out the door of my over sized room.

The cries of a baby and a male's yell rang in my ears as I ran up the stairs.

"Shut up you little brat!" my dad yelled, slamming his glass on the table. I walked past him to the crib. Typical. This was the daily routine almost every day. "Leann, take it for a walk or something"He said, drunk as heck.

"It's not a dog dad, its your 7-month-old son."  I sighed, picking my brother up. "Shh Tony shh" I waddled him for a bit. "Alright dad I'm off to go audition, then go to work."

"Tell your mom to get her ass* up and pay these damn* taxes"He said.      *sorry for language

I froze. I can't believe it, no matter how much I tell him, he still believes she wasn't dead. She died giving birth to his own son. My own mother's death made him drink voraciously, become an alcoholic. He could still drink because we were rich! It would never stop. Ever. My dad was lazy because he got 8 million dollars from his parents when they died.

"Kay" I said, walking out the door.

I put Tony in the backseat of my Mercedes-Benz and drove off.

The theater wasn't too far from my house, but traffic held me back. I had waited through hours of homework and high school for today. I was going to kill this audition.

Walking through the doors of the Paramount was magical. I touched all the little designs on the walls and pillars as i sat in the line of people waiting to audition. It was long, incredibly long.

This audition was big, unlike any other, so the judges invited free watching for anyone...barely anyone came. So imagine me, sitting there with a baby, not even a junior in high school. No way was I going to audition like this.

"Hey." A voice said.

I turned to see a black haired boy about my age. "Hey Luke." I smiled. "You come here to watch me fail at my audition?" I teased.

"No...I came here because I knew you would have Tony...and I wanted to watch you win this part."Luke said, offering to take the baby.

I handed my little brother to him and he looked at me. Leaning closer, he grasped my hand "Hey your gonna do great!" He kissed me. "Love you"

"You too." I smiled and turned to the line. A heavy feeling was in my chest, not the good kind. I felt guilty when I kissed my boyfriend. I do not know why. Maybe...

Maybe its because I like girls more than guys.
