Kya

"Hey," my adoptive mom says. "Where were you today?"

"I went to the audition, then I went to Starbucks, then I went for a walk," I say. I never really talk about my personal life to anyone. I don't trust anyone anymore. i used to have one friend I went to for everything but... we grew apart, I guess.

"Are you just gonna sit around on your guitar all day?" she asks, giving me that nervous smile. I glance down, looking at my guitar. I've been songwriting for the past two hours. It helps me think. I turn my eyes back up at her.

"Yes," I reply.

She smiles a bit wider, sitting down next to me. "You should eat something," she suggests.

"I did," I say. "I had food at Starbucks."

"I meant here," she sighs. "Kya, I feel like you're growing apart from people. You never interact with anyone, talk about yourself, or talk to anyone. I think your social skills might be... dissolving."

"Yuh huh," I say, playing a A#maj7 chord on my guitar.

"Maybe you should try to make a friend. I think you might be getting lonely."

I stare, giving her that "look". I take my hands off of my guitar, furrowing my brow. "Friends? Me? Just saying, it seems like maybe you haven't learned anything about me the past few years."

"Kya, it'll be good for you," she says. It's hard to go through school with nobody backing you up."

"I'm a sociopath," I state.

"Yes," she says. "Fine then. Maybe you should get a girlfriend."

"I..." I trail off. Best not to mention Leann. And besides, she's straight, or... maybe not. That phone call was so weird... maybe she's... bi? But why would she just... ask me out... maybe I'll call back and say yes. Maybe. "It would have to be one heck of a girl," I say.

"Mm."

"None of you mere mortals are up to my standards. You see, one has to be quite exceptional to meet my standards, and I'm not sure if any other human-"

"I'm not Declan, I can tell when you're lying."

"I'm not lying," I lie.

"I'm not Jude, either," she says. "There's a girl, isn't there."

Heaving a sigh, I lean my guitar against the cushion f the couch I'm sitting on and fix my posture. She's serious, isn't she? "Fine, I'll play along. There was a girl at the audition. Well, there were many girls. You see-"

"Stop stalling," she says.

"Erm- right," I say. Great. Now I don't have a plan. "She's a good singer, but she has a boyfriend. There. Happy?"

"I guess," she says, getting up to leave me alone with my guitar and my thoughts of Leann. "If you ever want to talk or need help getting friends, I'm here. I'm your mother, Kya."

Well, not exactly. My mother is dead, but I'm not enough of a sociopath to shove that in her face. She's always wanted a daughter, and I won't ruin that much for her.

Leann

I am such an idiot. What did I do! What the heck was I thinking?! I was going against every one of my beliefs! I mean seriously, who calls a most likely straight girl?!

Then the smell hits me. Crap. No not like I am saying crap because I am upset, I am saying crap because well...
Thats what my hand and face were covered in.

I go to the door that leads inside and reached for the handle. Immediately regretting my decision, I instead use my left hand. The washroom is right near the door...luckily.

I look in the mirror. Most of it is in my hair and my hands are yellowish from wiping it on the grass. Me spending at least 45 minutes trying to get it off of me and my phone was not how I wanted to spend my afternoon.

Finally when its all of I go out into were the kittens play. A grey one comes up and rubs its head against my leg, slapping its tail in my face.

"Hey cloud" I say, scratching his side as he collapses into my lap.

Then I do what I do if I am stressed out. Sing...

Closing my eyes, I let my emotions flood out.

Sky blue, grass green
Cloud white.
The yellow sun is shining
So bright
My imagination is
Coming to life
The birds-

An eruption of dog barks flood my ears as my fur comes off.

Wait... What?! Oh... There were cats on me, like 10. Great. Now what?

A smell floods my nose, smelly, but not disgusting. A warm breeze hits my cheek. Then my face is wet.

"Ah Gus! Seriously!!!???" I stand  and cloud jumps out of my lap, hissing at the golden retriever as the cat runs away.

The retriever cocks his head to the side and grins.

"How did you get in the cat pin anyway?"

I lead Gus out and headed to check on Toby. Just as I walk closer to him, I look at the clock "Shoot! How long was I in the cat pin? Its time to go!"

Picking up Sleepy Toby I get in my Car and drive home. I totally for got about making dinner.

As soon as I pull up in the drive way, My phone rings. I answer.

"Hey babe"A voice says

I look at the phone, its a number I had never seen before

"Luke?" I ask

"Who is Luke?" The voice asks

"Oh I'm sorry, I think you have the wrong number"

"no..."He says

"Yes.."I say reaching for the 'end call' button

"This is Leann, isn't it?" I freeze

"Yes..."This is really strange.

"Okay babe, so you are messing with me. Don't worry, I'll be back in Seattle soon. Cant wait to see you and your younger brother! After all, I'm technically his Brother-in-lawish. I-"

I hang up, I cant handle this stupid prank or whatever it is.

"Im home!" I yell, tossing the keys on the table.

"Okay, now shut up and stop screaming!" my dad yells back

Great, He must be really drunk.

I go down to my room with Toby and let him play with my keyboard as I do some homework due next Friday.

About and hour later my Phone buzzes again, this time a text. Its from that stupid person who called me. The text is a photo, I open it.

"How the heck does this person have a picture of me?" I look at it. Then I notice something, there is a glare in the picture.

That means It was taken from outside some window. I see a mirror in the background, the same window I have in my room...I am brushing my hair. What the heck!?
