The Mask

I looked around my surroundings, I as still in the same old room with the same old dingy furniture and wallpaper. There is however, something new. It always comes in every morning waiting for me to use on the bedside table. Nobody knows who puts it there, not that anybody really talks about it anyway.
I turn my head to the right, and there it is...the mask. Today my mask had a porcelain like complexion, pale pink lips and beautifully drawn eyelashes. I gathered the strenght to rise myself out of bed, wheither I liked it or not I would have to go about my day at the same time everyone else did. I dont know why I had to, I just...had to. At 9:30 am sharp you were expected to be lined up at your door and at 9:31 your door would open and you would walk out. I never tried messing with the system we have here in Calimite, out of fear that I would suffer a terrible punishment. It's weird how we are all afraid of breaking these set rules but yet none of us have ever experianced the punishments, or seen anyone break the rules. Its like its programmed into our brains.
I hurry to get dressed, we do have our own closet filled with beautiful and  expensive clothing and jewlery. It's sort of expected that you walk out dressed in the best attire and you match with your mask in a way. Since everyday is different, you can express different personalities and moods with different articles of clothing. The clothes never change but to be honest, I dont know how they got there in the first place. They have just been there since as long as I can remember. I chose a beautiful cremé dress with black lacing over the arms and skirt of the dress and black heels to match. I brushed my hair out and walked over to the mask. I ran my fingers over it for just a second then placed it on my face. The small clock by the metal door read 9:27, it was almost time. We dont have any mirrors here, there really is no need for them if you think about it. Nobody knows what you really look like and why waste time putting your best face forward when it's only going to be hidden by the mask. Everyone is equally beautiful, or handsome if were talking about the gentlemen.
I smoothed out my dress and walked to my door. The clock read 9:30 and then came a blaring siren signaling that the doors will be opening shortly. Over the years the sound seemed to have dulled down but that may be because of how deaf I am from the sound.
The latches on my door started to move and then there was the usual loud beep before the door opened and I was blinded by the sun's light. It's time.
