Chapter Thirteen
After refusing to tell me what Fred said about me, I announced that I was going to get in the shower and do my homework. “If you need help, let me know,” Jason said, slapping my butt as I stood up.
“I hope you mean the homework part, for your sake,” I hissed, irritated that he slapped me as I walked down the hall. I grabbed all of my clothes and walked into the bathroom and slammed the door. He probably didn’t hear it, but it made me feel better.
I stripped down and stepped into the steaming hot water. A slight, satisfied smile made its way to my face as I let the water pour over me. I reached for the shampoo with my eyes still shut and poured some into my hands. As I was massaging the shampoo into my hair, I opened my eyes and screamed. There was a giant cockroach sitting on my stomach. “GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!” I screamed, flailing my arms, hoping it would just fall off. It didn’t, in case you were wondering.
“What’s wrong?” Jason’s voice said from outside of my door.
“Come get the roach- Wait, GET OUT! DON’T COME IN! YOU PERVERT!”
“I’m still outside the door. I wasn’t actually coming in-”
I screamed again as I flicked the roach into the back of the tub. I jumped out of the shower and wrapped the towel around me. I whipped the door open and came face to face with Jason. I screamed again and slammed the door.
“Jenna?”
I opened the door. “Go kill it! Please go kill it! It’s a roach! It was on my tummy! Please go kill it.” By this time, everyone was in my room and staring at me as if I was overreacting and watching Jason in pity as he actually was going to kill the roach.
“Jenna, go put some more clothes on,” my Dad said sternly, folding his arms and looking back and forth between me and Jason. When my Dad has that look, it’s like a caution sign. Because if you don’t do what he said, or if you argue with him (he especially hates that), then you may as well call 9-1-1 because you’re going to need an ambulance.
Grabbing a T-shirt and my robe, I sprinted to my parents’ bathroom and locked the door. Before jumping into their shower, I checked the pristine walls for a giant black cockroach. When the coast was all clear, I stepped in and resumed my supposed happy shower. Unfortunately, my psyche was still rattled and every time I turned around, I thought I was touching a roach, seeing a roach, being stalked by the vicious roach… So my shower wasn’t as enjoyable as it should have been.
