Niall's POV:

Kieran had called and put me on speaker. I had noticed that she was out of breath and sounded terrified. I kept my mouth shut and listened.

A loud bang caused me to jump back and almost drop my phone. Was somebody inside of her house?

"Who the hell do you think you are, Kieran?" I hear somebody shout. It was definitely a guy. I was really scared for her, but I couldn't find the strength to move.

"Jacob, please don't do anything irrational, you will regret it later," she said calmly. Wait, so Jacob was there? Fuck.

"Don't talk to me like that, bitch!" he shouted.

"Or what? You'll stab me? Punch me? Slap me? Kick me? You've already done all of that, yet I'm still here," she said, her voice cracking at the very end.

"You little fucking bitch! I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to rearrange that pretty little face of yours, then kill you slowly." He laughed menacingly.

I finally found the strength to move my feet and I bolted out of the house, before storming into Kieran's and finding something to hit him with. My eyes sept the room quickly before finding a glass vase. I picked it up and found Jacob leaning over Kieran, who wasn't moving. My eyes widened and I crashed the vase onto his head, before punching him repeatedly in the face after he fell to the ground. I pushed him off of Kieran and checked her pulse.

She was breathing, but her head was bleeding. I got up and ran to her bathroom, grabbed the towel that was there, and dashed back, placing it carefully over the wound. I pulled out my phone and dialled 911, explaining the situation. I needed to take care of him before he woke up. I decided to keep pressure on her head and watch for him, even though I was sure he would be knocked out for a while. I waited at least another 5 minutes before the ambulance showed up, and they took her and rushed her inside on a gurney.

Jacob was being carried away by police officers and pushed into the back of a cop car. I was thankful he would probably be in jail for a while.

The EMTs told me to get in the back with her, in case she woke up in the vehicle. I quickly found her phone, so I could get ahold of her boss. We waited in the ambulance for what seemed like ages, but was only ten minutes. She was admitted into the hospital and when we got into the room I called her boss. She answered on the first ring, something she probably did often because she knew more than I did about Jacob.

"Kieran? Is there something wrong? Did he come back?" she asked.

"Hello, this is Niall, Kieran's neighbor. She is in the hospital right now, and she-" I was cut off by her screaming.

"Is she okay? What happened to her? Was it Jacob?"

"It was Jacob, she has a concussion, but she should be fine. Could you meet me here?" I asked.

Fifteen minutes later, Lis and I were waiting impatiently for Kieran to wake up. I told her what happened and we made conversation about Jacob, mostly about how much of an asshole he was. I asked her why she stayed with him and her answer was something I never expected.

"He saved her life." she said, not giving out any more information. This was probably a touchy subject to her. I also asked her how she knew Kieran. She had been a close friend of her mother before she died. A drunk driver hit her car and killed 3 people, including Kieran's mother. Her dad had walked out on her when she was 15, a year after her mother was killed. I was devastated to hear more about Kieran. She had gone through so much, and her douchebag of a boyfriend made it even worse.

After a few moments of silence, Kieran opened her eyes, shocked to see her boss or me in the room beside her. Her face lit up, and then her smile faded into a frown.

"Where is he?" she asked terrified.

"He is in jail right now. He won't be able to hurt you ever again," I said with caution.

She got even more scared. "How much do the cops know? Who put me in here? Why-"

"They only know about what happened tonight, I didn't tell them anything else. After he hit you with the lamp I beat the shit out of him and called the police, and we took the ambulance. I called your boss too," I said, knowing my words calmed her down a lot. Her eyes were filled with both happiness and concern.

She didn't say anything for a few minutes, probably because her head hurt. She had gotten stitches on her forehead from where the lamp busted it open. Now, because of Jacob, she had two scars. Two reminders of what he did to her, one of which I would always have to see. I liked Kieran, even in the short time I had known her. I felt that she was so strong despite what she had gone through, even though I knew nearly nothing.

The doctor rushed back into the room and gave Kieran more medication. He then turned to me and asked if he could have a word.

"You know you saved her life, right?" He told me.

"How? I mean, I know her head was bleeding, but was it that bad?" I questioned. I didn't really do that much.

"If you hadn't have put pressure on her wound she could have bled out. Oh, and by the way, do you have any idea where the scar on her stomach came from?" My stomach churned at the question. Was I supposed to tell him? I decided against it, because it wasn't my business to tell anybody.

"Um, no actually, sorry," I lied. He nodded and wrote down a few things on his clipboard.

We went back into the room.

"Alright, Kieran. You can go home tomorrow morning first thing. Do you have a ride home?" The doctor asked.

"I'll drive them both home." Lis said, and I thanked her because I had left my car at home. "Kieran, just text or call me when you get ready to leave, alright sweetie?"

"Okay, thank you both so much. Goodnight," she said with a yawn. Lis got her things and went home, and I stayed in the chair next to her, falling asleep after about an hour.
