KATAKANA is for not japanese word such as your name (if you are not japanese).. My name is Laili and i MUST write my name in KATAKANA.. like this.. ライリ.. ^_^ Ah! I forgot to tell you.. there also dont have la, li, lu, le and lo.. they use ra, ri, ru, re and ro instead to replace them.. that's why my name is japanese Rairi..
Another examples are..
Alice - アリス (Arisu)
Television- テレビ (terebi)
Lemon- レモン (remon)
America- アメリカ (Amerika)
KATAKANA use for songs title too.. such as.. Kimigayo (kimigayo is Japan's national anthem) become 「キミガヨ」
