Leaving school with Bethany was a hard deal. She wouldn't talk to me, or look at me. Actually, scratch that, she looked at me plenty. Glared at me. And I guess that was much better than having her yell at me constantly while I walked home.  On the other hand, she was walking right next to me, with her head rotated at me, not a single blink, word or emotion slipping out of her mouth. And that was even scarier. An angry person when they are calm is one of the worst possible things I have on my list, 'List of Fears' . Number one is my angry mother. Number two is my angry father. Now I knew what number three was. Angry Bethany. But I couldn't bear to have her stare at me like that, all the way home, in the bus and in the streets. I couldn't bear to feel that way.

"Look, Bethany-"I began but was abruptly interrupted.

"I don't care, and I don't want to hear what you have to say." She shouted so loudly, I was sure that people in Rome could hear us.

"Well then don't listen to me. Close your ears or something." I immediately shot back fiercely. She rolled her eyes at me. "Look, Bethany, I get it. You hate me. Don't worry, the feeling is mutual. However, I refuse to spend my last years in school filled with drama and hatred. I want it to end well. And how   am I to do that with you getting into my head?" Bethany only continued waliking and looked to the ground. "I propose a deal." Her eyes shot up at this. Smirking, I continued. "If you try, and by try, I don't mean pretend, to be my friend-"

"No." She looked back down again.

"For just this year, then I'll do something, anything you want me to do."

"Anything?" She had this hint of excitement in her voice, and to be honest, i was petfrified. But I guess that this was all for a great, reasonable cause. Right?

"Anything. Do we have a deal?" She shrugged her shoulders.

"Let me think about it."

"What do you want?"

"I said let me think about it!" Shouting loudly, she stopped in her tracks.

"Okay, okay! Well then just rememeber that I don't want to pretend. I think you could actually become a decent friend for an entire year! You might even like me,who knows, maybe your heart isn't as cold as I thought it was."

"Ew, no, don't even think for a second that I actually like you. No, no, nope! On the other hand, there is one thing that you could do for me..." She started laughing with a fake manner, but then toned down to a whisper.

"Like what?" I was suddnely completely and utterly curious.

"I'm not sure I can tell you. Maybe tomorrow. Or not." And like that, she turned around, did a U-turn, and left me.

I was definitely not sad about that. Actually, I felt relieved. A spark of curiosity was left in me though, but I let it sink.

About an hour later, I had arrived home, and had just finished my lunch. Mum wasn't home, and so, I figured out that she was in her working interview. For lunch, I had to order pizza, and I was not complaining, however, the pizza delivery guy had turned out to be a rude woman who couldn't count how much change she owed me. I told her the amount and she unfortuantely decided to not believe me. She gave me back three quarters of my change. I didn't let that bother me, I had to eanjoy my delightful pizza, and then sadly get on with my homework.

In my room, I chnaged, opened my curtains and window, and got my school bag from under my desk. After plopping down in my desk chair and getting all my books out, I realised that I could hear the cicada from outside my window, which was very rare in Rockwood. Well, at least for how long I was here, a couple of months or so. Cicada and crikets were almost impossible to hear. I walked to my window and poked my head outside, the sun hitting my eyes. As I squinted, I saw something shine in the corner of the emergency fire stairs beneath my window.
