Amber's P.O.V.
O'Dell kept telling me to keep my eyes open while the others ran ahead and started knocking on Terri's front door.
Moments later she opened it. "Guys, my momma and I are bus-" And she saw me.
"Oh my God!" She whispered. "Mother!" She shouted.
Her mother came outside, saw me then ushered us all back into her home. THey cleared off the large table and O'Dell gently set me on it. Terri and her mom started running around, grabbing things while I proceeded to pass out.
It felt like hours but maybe thirty minutes later I woke up.
Roy Lee was holding my left hand and O'Dell was holding my right hand.
I tried sitting up but Terri's mom, Taylor, pushed my shoulders back gently and I laid back.
"You need to lie down." She said softly.
I sort of did this weird nod thing.
Roy Lee squeezed my hand and bounced his knee.
O'Dell just held my hand and rubbed it.
"M-Miss Taylor." I said.
"Yes sweet pea?"
"Are you gonna tell someone?"
Taylor looked at the boys, Terri then they all looked at me.
"Not if you don't want mt to sweet pea." She said sweetly.
I nodded slowly and looked at Homer at the end of my feet. Quinton was in a chair, next to Terri.
"But you're lyin' Miss Taylor." I said while moving my feet.
She looked at me. "And what makes you say that?"
"Whenever you say something sweetly you're usually lyin'."
She looked defeated. "Fine. I already told somebody."
"What!?" I shouted while sitting up.
She looked at her hand. "I told somebody."
"Please tell me it wasn't the police. Anyone but them."
She looked reall sorry.
I looked at her. "B-But..... They'll take me away from them, from you guys."
Taylor looked at me. "Sweet pea, I don't-"
"Everytime I told you guys not to tell anyone it was for a reason. If people get into it they'll take me away and put me into a foster home, or an orphange. I'll not only be taken away from those hell bound people but from you guys. All of you."
Taylor looked shocked. "I-I... I didn't know that thtey'd do that!"
O'Dell looked at her. "It's been that way for years Miss Taylor.''
Soon I heard sirnes and yelling. "We gotta get you home."
Roy Lee picked me up this time and all of us, including Taylor and Terri came to my home.
The police were there and Roy Lee set me down.
Roy Lee and O'Dell put their arms around my shoulders and one on my back, each so they could support me.
I felt sparks rush up my spine and my stomach jumped.
A police officer walked over to us. "Are you Amber?" He asked as two other police officers dragged my mother and step-dad into a police car with handcuffs on them.
I nodded. He gestured for me to walk with him.
"So, Amber, how are you?" He asked.
"I'd rather not be here to be taken away from my friends."
He nodded. "Well, your step-father will be from now on, working in the mines. Your mother will be near you but not allowed to touch you."
I nodded.
"Miss, why didn't you tell anyone?"
"It'd make a scene sir. I'm not one for attention."
He nodded after my reply.
"Well, things should clear up in a few minutes. If you need anything, you know who to dial."
I nodded.
Soon all of them left, Terri and Taylor went home and the boys helped me inside. I turned on the T.V. for them, and made them sit down.
I went to make some sandwiches.
I quickly made five of them. I started nibbling on mine while I got them some soda. I carried the sandwiches out to them but O'Dell got up and took his to the kitchen/dining room and sat down. I walked back into there after handing the others their food.
"O'Dell? Somethin' wrong?"
He stood up and hugged her. "I just don't want to ever let you go."
"ODell, I'm not dead-"
"But you could've been. You always could be dead. Anytime, and anywhere."
"I realize that."
"Do you?"
I nodded. He let go of me. "Hey Amber?"
"Yeah?"
"Will you go out with me?"
"Like on a date?"
"Not what I was pointing at but yeah, sure, like a date."
I laughed a little and nodded. "Sure."
"So... Tomomorow at seven? To the diner on Calder?"
I nodded and hugged him. "I'll be there."
And be there, I will. I don't want to hurt Roy Lee 'cause he can hide it but it's out there that he likes me. I know O'Dell does 'cause he always talks about me. Homer seems to like that Dorathay girl but then Quinton likes Terri.
This is another problem.
