"There's nothing left but these I love you's."
Michael's P.O.V.
We stayed in the waiting room with Mason who was still crying her eyes out until Lilly's doctor and Melody came out to tell us what went wrong. All five of us stood up when they got closer, holding onto each other for support. "She's alive. Her body is shutting down and she fell into a coma to protect herself. It's unclear when she'll wake up again but we're going to start treatment this afternoon to try and shock her out of it." I closed my eyes in relief but it was like a part of my heart broke off and shattered on the floor. "You can go in and see her now if you'd like." Melody whispered and Mason wrapped her in a quick hug before talking off to Lilly's room. The rest of us followed behind her silently and tried our best to keep it together. Mason was already in Lilly's bed when we got into the room, cuddled into her like she would have been any other day of the week; except this time she was whispering desperate pleas to the universe. "Please just let her wake up. She has so many things left to do, so many places to see, and so many people to fall in love with. She wants to get married and she wants to walk me down the aisle and she wants to be an aunt and she wants to be a mom and it's just not fucking fair that it's all getting taken away because some sorry excuse for a God thinks it's her time!" Luke went over to her and laid a hand on her shoulder only to have it shoved off. "Don't fucking touch me. I'm not moving until she wakes up." Mason's voice broke and that's when I started to cry for real, when I realized that this might be the end to the only real thing I've ever known. Ashton sqeezed my shoulder and Calum had to wipe the tears that had trailed down his cheek away. "Come on." Calum whispered and it broke the silence. "Let Michael have some time with Lilly. He needs to say a few things he didn't say yesterday." They left me alone with Lilly, Mason kissing the top of her head before slipping out of the bed. I sat in the chair beside her bed and laced my fingers with hers, tracing the veins on top of her hand and letting the tears continue to roll down my cheeks. "There's so much I haven't said to you and it breaks my heart that you can't even hear it. I love you, Lilly Ann. And this is the first time I've ever felt like this about someone and it's being ripped away from me. I'm so, so sorry I didn't stay yesterday. I don't care about your past, you can't help that someone hurt you. I don't want this to be goodbye, I love you. Please just wake up. Please." My voice cracked but I didn't care. This wasn't the time to worry about anything other than Lilly.
I sat there for a while, whispering I love you into her ear until Melody told me Lilly's family was on their way. I went into the waiting room with everyone else, anger bubbling in my stomach because they shouldn't be allowed to come and see Lilly. Not when they didn't give a damn about her. We sat in silence until they showed up and stepped off the elevator and Mason was in front of them before anyone could blink. "Don't you dare do anything to her! Not when you don't even care." Mason said bitterly and Luke had to move her so they could pass because she looked like was going to murder them in cold blood. They stopped in front of the rest of us and Lilly's father spoke firmly. "You can all go home now, we'll take care of it." Ashton grabbed Calum's arm to keep him from doing something stupid, but it didn't stop me from yelling. "No, you don't get to come in here and pretend like you're doing something to help her when you didn't care until now! You don't even understand how much she loved you even though you treated her like shit! You don't deserve her and you sure as hell don't deserve to be here!" Lilly's mother gasped at what I had said and I wouldn't take it back. They needed to know how badly they hurt her. "Every single day she would text me about how much she missed you, about how she was scared and just wanted her family there so she would feel a little safe. She needed you and you threw her away." They walked away after that and Mason tackled me into a hug, whispering thank you like I had said what she wanted to say for years; which I probably did. I hated Lilly's family almost as much as Mason did.
It went on like this for a month and a half. We canceled all of our shows and the fans understood, knew we needed some time because this wasn't something you got over easily. Ashton spent all of his free time at the hospital, sleeping more in the waiting room than he did his own bed. Calum had to be in the room with Lilly at all times because if someone showed up and they had hurt Lilly before he was going to physically throw them out of the hospital window. Luke spent his time with Mason, making sure she didn't break down completely because Lilly was going to need her when she woke up. But I couldn't do it. Not when Lilly looked like she was already dead and she was colder than she had ever been. Not when she couldn't hear me say I love you and she couldn't say it back. I needed her to wake up. And she finally did, but it wasn't like we hoped. It took her a while to remember who we were and that was the hardest part for all of us. Mason cried her eyes out when Lilly could't remember her or how they met or even why she was there. But then one day she remembered. Remembered who all of us were and we spent all day trying to stuff all six of us in her tiny hospital bed because we had missed her so much.
"Do you remember anything?" Mason asked quietly and Lilly shrugged, leaning further onto me and I slipped my arm around her waist so she could lean her head on my shoulder. "I can remember us getting into a fight and my brothers best friend showing up and Michael coming to save me from him. And everything after that, it just sort of seems like a dream and I can't tell what was real and what I made up." Lilly explained softly and Mason moved her hands in a continue motion. "I remember you yelling a lot. Something about how I had more time left. And Calum said I was his best friend, even though we only ever talked about the most random things. And Ashton sang a lot, all the silly little songs that I said I loved and the sad ones that he said broke his heart." Lilly looked up at me and I kissed her on the forehead. "You told me you loved me?" she whispered and I nodded my head, smiling to myself when she started to blush. "I love you, too."
A/N: Okay so this chapter is total crap but I needed her to wake up so I just went with it so I can move on to the next chapter, because it's going to be the beginning of the end. Also, I want it to be known that Mason yelling at God and is rude is just for the point of the story; sorry if I offend anyone! Please vote and comment, it would mean a lot to me ♥
