Noah's voice was faint. It trembled as if he were in danger of slipping away once and for all.
When the beast is done taking you, it will seek rest. You must find Roux, enlist his aid to kill it. I will do my best to subdue it.
"No," Emme cried, trying to work past the terror that clutched at her throat. "I won't do it!"
You must, vitago! Once this beast has tasted you, he will be insatiable. You must do as I say!
Emme grabbed Noah's face, yanking it so that she looked straight into the eyes of the darkness that overcame him. Everything in her screamed to flinch from the evil, even as he took her body.
"I will not," she gasped, focusing on Noah's voice in her mind and not the pain and discomfort in her muscles. "You are my moonmate, my life and soul is forever entwined with yours. Beneath the light of the moon, with your body joined to mine, I take you, now, forever and into eternity."
Upon uttering those words, Emme's jaw ached violently as her canines erupted involuntarily. The beast roared as it realized her intentions, but it was too late. Emme sank her teeth deep into the crevice between Noah's neck and shoulder, binding him permanently to her.
Stand in the moonlight with me, she murmured to him as she lifted her head. Her hands fluttered to his jawline, gently, drawing his face to hers, looking deep into his eyes. She reached for him. The haze of darkness faded slowly. Noah's body began to slow its movements as the rogue slipped silently away. Black eyes faded to brown. With a heavy shudder, Noah withdrew from her, and rested his head on her shoulder. Hot tears kissed her skin. She clung to him, rubbing circles in his back, murmuring the moon's promises in his ear. His sobs shook him, his sorrow beat at her. She melded her mind firmly with his.
"You should have killed me," he groaned.
Emme shook her head. She kissed his ear.
If she had killed him, she would've been killing herself too.
Her canines retracted slowly, rubbing against bruised gum. As much as she missed her wolf, she had gone so long without shifting that her body had grown unaccustomed to the change. Noah carried her delicately to the bathroom. He ran hot water in the tub.
"I want to erase the touch of the animal from your skin," he murmured as he lowered her delicately into the steaming water.
Emme sighed as the hot water caressed her, warming her skin, soothing her muscles. She bit her lip and stared at her toes. She couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief when Noah didn't join her. She wasn't keen on engaging in...that again.
"You are more than I deserve," Noah murmured. She wasn't sure if she heard him or felt his thoughts. She closed her eyes and tried to relax into the newness of the bond. He lathered up a wash towel and began to clean her, starting first with behind her ears, and working his way down to her neck. By the time he reached her shoulders, she was relaxing into his touch, feeling loose from the combination of the hot water and his strong fingers.
The towel slipped over her body, scrubbing, caressing, chased by the smooth brush of his soapy hand against her skin, exploring, getting to know her. His gaze was hot on her body. She heard his desires as if they were her own. He wanted to bite on her lower lip, to draw it into the warm cavern of his mouth, to place heated kisses on her warm skin.
His hands worked the cloth down her body, his fingers gazing against the heated silk of her skin whenever they could. He rinsed her with the warm water, sending shudders of pleasure down her spine. She opened her eyes lazily smiled at him. His lips descended to meet hers.
