There Are Others

There were people walking around upstairs, but I paid no attention. The place was barely lit and dust covered almost everything. There seemed to be places that were used more often than others, while some spots seemed never touched. I shivered as a cool breeze blew through the house, at least the lower level.
"Alright, then, no need to be shy." the lady said calmly as I continued to look around.
"I'm not being shy, I'm just quiet." The woman sighed and shook her head.
"As expected." I looked at her curiously, still keeping my head low. "They just about all said that when they first got here." I looked up the stairs.
        "Who is 'they'?" I ask.
"The boys." She said quite flatly. I nodded. "All your age. I only accept children over ten years old," she said the word children very reluctantly, as if she didn't want to use it.
She showed me to a room upstairs and let me settle in. I pulled out my MP3 player and began listening to music. I sat on the bed listening to music for... I lost track of time. None of the others had come to see me and I was fine with it. I didn't need to be annoyed by anyone after yesterday.
The night went by with no problems, it was just different. There was no shouting outside my window like I was used to and there were no lights passing by my window. Another couple days passed and still, no one had really bothered me. I was sitting on the couch in the front room downstairs, reading and listening to music.

"So you're the newbie, huh?"
I jumped up, looking behind me. Someone finally had the nerve to bother me. "Yeah, I guess so."
He looked me over slightly smiling. "You look like someone I know... Do you have any siblings?" His smile grew to a flat out grin like he was dared to talk to me about this subject.
"No, I don't."
"You sure? You look an awful lot like-" He was cut off mid sentence by being tackled from behind from another one of the boys.

I watched them wrestle for a couple of minutes until the noticed me standing there still. They both stood up quickly and awkwardly. I heard the other boys snickering. They walked off talking to each other but all I heard was something like "I thought you said that..." and "Just don't tell her yet..." and other small fragments of the conversation and I just stood there, overly puzzled.
