Now that Freck experienced her first brush with telepathy, she learned mind-to-mind communication real quick. It warn't but a week before she was able to do it regular. Neither of us was any good mind-readin', though. Gee urged patience. "It will come. There is no need to press the issue." he said.Gee was very clear with us that Keeper's school was much different from Topsider schools. We thought going from elementary school to Jr. High was a big change, it was, but Keeper School was on a whole diff'rent level. We didn't have books, pencils, or desks. Gee was our teacher, but he didn't stand in front of us writing on a blackboard. We warn't even in a classroom. Gee spoke to us in our heads, and because he could read minds he always knew exactly when we got confused. I'd bet teachers back home wish't they could do it too.
Except in mediation study, we would be learnin' all the time while doin' other things. We would spend a lot of time meditatin'. Gee instrcted that practicin' this skill would enable us to clear our minds and focus. This was essential to learnin' Cigam. The good thing was that we didn't need to be indoors to practice except when the weather was bad. Gee said, "Meditation requires that you find a place that is most peaceful for you, at least at first. Interruptions will be distracting. Where might that be?"
Freck mind-spoke, "When we first came to the Kingdom we were taken to a place that looked exactly like the park by the Burns Town Hall. We had brunch in the North Pavilion. There was a grassy spot near the creek where we sat on blankets. That was peaceful. Would that be a good place to learn meditation?"
"That is an excellent choice," Gee answered. "Wishes would that work for you too? You don't have to select the same place, but it would be better for you to stay together as you learn."
I said, "Sure that sounds great. We don't always have to go there, do we?"
"I know that you enjoy exploring, Wishes. If you discover somewhere else that you want to try, do it. Just make sure you can get comfortable and free of distractions. Also, the Keepers made you new clothes made of soft non-restrictive material. They automatically adjust to temperature, so no matter what the thermometer says, you will always feel just right. Should it rain they are waterproof. To keep your heads dry just pull up the hood. You also have special shoes to wear. They look a little like the slipper-socks you have topside, except they are durable and made for outdoor use. You could even go hiking or rock climbing in them. We think that you will so enjoy keeper clothing that you will want to wear them all the time during your stay in the kingdom."
When we were escorted, because we hadn't learn to operate the vator yet, back to my replicated Burns house, we each found a stack of sea-foam green robes, with hoods, and large bell sleeves. The sleeves were roomy enough to put both hands inside, one on top of the other, like a monk. Each cope came with loose pants like pajamas, and there was several pairs of slipper-sock shoes. They looked as if they would go clear up ta our calves. They was made out of the same material as the tunics and pajama pants, but the soles were sturdy and appeared to have good arch support. Daddy always tol' me that arch support was one of the hallmarks of a good shoe. He also said that spendin' more to buy good shoes ain't a cost; it's an investment. Of course, we didn't have ta buy these, they was Keeper provided.
I noticed that Freck and I didn't speak out-loud much anymore. Wow Wishes," Freck exclaimed, "these are the same color as the dress my mother wore in my vision! I cain't wait to go home and try on my new clothes.Ya know, girls love new clothes." She left her house purty dang happy.
