As always I wake up in a cold sweat, and red puffy eyes that suggests I've been crying in my sleep. I hit the off button on my alarm and push myself up on my elbows. I yawn then push the covers off. I swing my legs off my bed and hobble awkwardly until I reach my crutches. I grab them and walk to my dresser. I brush my hair also put it into a pony tail. I grab a whit t-shirt and jeans to hurriedly get dressed. Socks and shoes are next, then I'm walking out the door of my bedroom.
My dad is still not ready so I make myself some cereal. After messing around on my phone for over 30 minutes, my father emerges from his bedroom. My mom is working today so she left at 4:30 a.m. He walk past me to the coffee pot and fills his contained that he takes to work. Without looking at me he walks towards the door and calls over his shoulder, "Ready?" and without waiting for a reply, walks put the door. I roll my eyes, typical father. I hobble out to the truck and climb into the backseat. I have to sit where my leg can be propped up.
Once we are at school, I say bye to my dad, grab my bag, and head towards the doors. I cringe as I hear the bell ring, signaling the start of school. Great now I won't be able to talk to Nicole and Miracle until lunch. I growl low in my throat. Dang-it dad.
Lunch Time
A few seconds after the bell rings for lunch I get a text from Nicole.
Where are we going to meet for lunch?
At the bottom of the stairs.
Ok🤓
I made the meeting place so it would be easier for Nicole since her class in down stairs. On the other hand I had to go all the way to the elevator to go down.
I was almost there when I heard an angry voice nearly yell, "You just had to do it, didn't you?!" I immediately recognized the voice as Samuel Ankins. I growled to myself, the uptight bastard. He's stupid and rich. A dangerous combination. I hurried the pace up to see who he was bothering, when I realized I couldn't see Nicole. I have a bad feeling about this. I turned the corner just in time to see Samuel push her into the ladies restroom. His friends turned their backs to the door and blocked it.
I pitied whoever I was going to have to kill. I went as fast as I could to in front of the stupid blokes.
I stood as tall as I could. They glared down at me, trying to be intimidating. Some even daring to laugh at me, after all who could be afraid of a handicapped person. Boy, did they have another thing coming.
I looked the closest one in the eye, "Let me pass." He laughed. I had to grit my teeth to keep from cursing at him, in English or otherwise. "I'll ask again. Let. Me. Pass." This time another boy stepped up. I quickly assessed him and realized he was Samuels right-hand man, Harley Adams. He's 6'1, at least, and has sandy-blonde hair and green emerald green eyes. My favorite color. I mentally shake myself, no, no, no, he is the enemy. Now is not the time to drool. He smirks down at me.
"Aw, look how pathetic she looks. All injured. It's sad really." He came closer to me. He reaches over and ruffles my hair, but I nip him before he can pull away. He makes no noise but his eyes light with fire. A muscle in his jaw twitches.
"Feisty, arnt we." I just glare at him. He starts to move closer to me again, however the bathroom door slams open. Samuel emerges looking like the cat who ate the canary. I shoot fire from my eyes at him. He merely glares at me, then jerks his head, indicating them to leave. Harley takes one last look at me before moving away.
"Pray you did nothing to her Samuel." I say once they are out of earshot. Then burst through the door myself.
Nicole's plastered to the wall in shock. I go over to her.
"Nicole!! Hey!! Are you alright??" I look her up and down checking for signs of injury.
"They wouldn't let me in. I saw you both go in. What did he do??" Again I look her over, "Did he hurt you??" Samuel you will rue the day you were born. If I see even I hair out of place I will have Miracle curse you and your first born son. "If he did he's going to be blank and blue tomorrow." I end the sentence by slamming my fist into my palm. She shakes her head.
"No, he didn't hurt me." She pushes herself off the wall and goes over to the mirror. She stares at her reflection, I can tell she's deep in thought. I walk up behind her and she glances at me through the mirror.
"Nicole, what happened?? You're worrying me." I prod gently, I don't want her to clam up on me. She's done it before, and it always made me feel helpless. She smiles, but it doesn't reach her eyes.
"What am I going to do??" She sounds exhausted and a bit frightened. I tilt my head to the side, not knowing what she means.
She turns to face me. "So you know how I've got a few classes with Samuel??" I nod. "Well, we have to do a parter project in Mrs.Pauls, and she paired me up with him. He was rude enough to ask, in front of the whole class, to have a different partner. But she refused. So after class he tried to talk to me and I..." She trailed off. I made a circular motion with my hand and smiled sarcastically. She laughed a little and my heart soared. "I may have ran from him." I face-palmed "So then I was waiting for you at the stairs and I guess he saw me. I tried to escape into the bathroom, but you see where that got me." I nod empathetically "So he told me that if I ever ignored him again if get severely punished" she put quotation marks around the last two words "and that we would meet at his house at 7 on Friday for our project."
I don't say anything for awhile and just stare at her, contemplating.
"Wooooooooooooow..." That gets another laugh.
"Yeah that's what I think. Anyways wanna go get lunch??" I nod and she grabs her backpack that had been somehow dropped on the ground. Moving to the door she looks both ways then zooms out. I hobble as quickly as I can to try to keep up but she's already ahead of me. She looks back and slows down, looking apologetic.
"Soooo, how do you feel??" I ask. Trying to make the silence be q little less...silent.
She shakes her head, "I keep replaying what happened."
I chuckle, "I would too. I kind of feel bad for you, no offense."
She sighs, "Me too, but what I'm worried about is going to his house. My dad is never going to let me go to his house! Samuel is going to be so mad!" I could tell she was actually relieved, and so was I. Go to his house. No. Way. In. Hell.
We get our food and I get a chicken sandwich and a Gatorade. She gets a pizza and some mystery juice the serve. I honestly don't know why she gets pizza every day. I would get tired of the taste.
As we are walking to the table I hear familiar laughter. It's Samuel and his cronies. I notice they are all looking at us and sneer in their direction. Harley even has the nerve to wink at me, but I ignore it. No need to cause a bigger scene. I turn to Nicole whose ducked her head, trying to block them out.
"Hey, it's fine. Don't worry about them." I say in a soothing tone. Trying to ease the tension.
"Yeah, whatever, lets just go find Miracle." She shrugs.
I hope those guys are prepared for war, because the second the messed with my friend was the moment they sealed their fates.
So that's the end of the first chapter. I don't know...does it seem long to you guys??
