I was half mundane and half shadow hunter, I grew up learning how to be a shadow hunter. My mom never wanted me to go to the institution, she was an amazing shadow hunter. She taught me everything she knew, she showed me a big book of symbols that I needed to know if I was ever going to be a great shadow hunter. I went to regular school on weekdays and on the weekends I would learn shadow hunter things. I was happy with my life, I was about to graduate high school and go out and full fill my shadow hunting career. But one day that all changed for worse.

I was walking toward my favorite coffeehouse on 24th street, when a guy caught my eye he was tall about 6 foot with messy blonde hair, blue eyes, and broad shoulders, he had a mysterious feel to him. What really caught my eye was the markings on his arm, I've seen them before somewhere in the books my mom gave me. I was about to approach him and ask him some questions, when my phone starts ringing. I looked down at my phone and sw the caller ID was my mom. " Hey mom, what's up" I asked "Kaylee, don't come home" she said with a panic "Why? What's wrong mom?" She asked getting scared by her mother's voice "Just listen to me, I don't have much time" she rushed "I need you to go to the institution, and go to the person in charge and say that Nancy Ross has been found by him" she said I heard rustling noise in the background "Wait mom! Who? Who found you? " I asked as I was starting to walk outside of the coffeehouse. "Wait a day before coming home, I am hiding a chest full of stuff that will answer all of your questions" she said in the background you could hear someone banging on the door " Remember Kaylee, whatever they tell you about me isn't true I did it for you, it was all for your safety" the nosie in the background started getting louder. The nose started to scare me. You could her voices talking too. There was this really loud bang and then everything just stopped. "I love you always remember that" her mom said. It sounded like she was crying Kaylee thought to herself. All of a sudden you hear this really loud explosion and then the line goes dead. " Mom Mom Mom" I started to say into the phone but there was no answer. I started to freak out and getting scared. I started to remember something my mom said to me when I was little.

"Kaylee" I hear my mom call me, I run into the room she was in and stand in front of her, I look up at her with my big hazel eyes. "Yes mommy " I said in my 5 year old voice, she crouches down on her knees so she was about my height. She takes a deep breath and let's it go " Kaylee, I am going to need you to remember this because there is going to be a time where I will tell you something that will sound ridiculous to you, but I'm going to need you to do it no matter what it is" she says in the most serious tone "Okay mommy, I'll try my hardest to do it" I say with the biggest smile. She smiles and kisses my forehead "That's my girl" she says as she gets up from the floor.

I start to calm myself down and start to think what would my mother do in this situation. I remember that I carry a pocket size book of runes in my bag. I take my bag off of my shoulder and start searching through it to see where my book went. I finally find the book and start Turing the pages to find the page that has a map to the institution. I look at the map for about 20 minutes until I finally get up from the ground and turn toward the direction I'm going to start walking in. I take a deep breath and started walking toward the institution not knowing that this would be a start to an incredible journey, with many paths that lead to heartbreak, tragedy, anger, confusion, and sadness. Let's see where the road takes me.
